For the fronts you will need new pads, calipers, rubber hoses.. You will want to get the rotors checked to make sure they are useable, or just go ahead & replace them as well. It's a good idea to repack the wheel bearings while you have the brakes apart. It'll be easier to repack them now while you have them apart, than having to take it all apart to repack or replace them. You will need two inner wheel seals to do this.

For the rears, you will need new shoes, rear brake hose, wheel cylinders, hardware kit and possibly drunks. Just as you can get the rotors checked you can do the same with the drums.

You will also want to get lots of brake fluid so you can bleed the entire brake system of all the old fluid. You may be asking why if the car has a good pedal... The answer is simple my friend. Brake fluid retains a certain amount of moisture, which will lead to rust AND brake fade. You bleed the brakes to get air out of the system as well as the old brake fluid.

The Haynes manual actually has good info on the brakes so you should be able to refer that if needed.

Bring the car to someone that has experience and can do them for you, or help you do them. Brakes are TOO important.

Matt gives some good info too. I normally don't swap out calipers or other items until I inspect them.

Miked1989:

I concur with Bill (above) that the brakes are very important - if you are unsure of yourself in any way, have a professional do it, or have someone with first hand knowledge help.

I myself went through a reasonably exhaustive brake system overhaul about a month ago; all new rear hardware/cylinders, rear hoses, returned drums, and new master cylinder/front hoses. I've yet to "dig in" to the front disc brakes, I'm just glad to have brakes again.

Good luck with yours, be very cautious and proactive when working on your brakes, have the right tools, and be patient.

To check your lines which might have small holes letting air in, stand over the master cylinder while having someone pump the brakes and look for bubbles in the brake fluid. If you don't replace the lines you'll have to keep putting more brake fluid in, I do mine almost weekly because I have yet to replace them.
