Title: Insurance
Post by: losin sux on September 07, 2004, 09:26:41 AM
Collector car insurance sure does seem restrictive but awful cheap (found it for 50 for 5000 car value).  I have heard that to get them to pay off you almost have to tear your car in half, not good.  Regular insurance it would seem would almost total your car with any damage but you are left holding the bag and minus the car, not good.  My question is how much do you drive your car and which kind of insurance do you have?  I can give up driving to work but not driving down to the store for a loaf of bread would just blow.  Could I consider that a "cruise"?  Just looks as if they have us over the barrel!

Check www.grundy.com, you can get a free quote there.  My quote for $5000 was $100 per year.  They claim no mileage or driving restrictions.  May be worth checking out.

I drive my Pinto everyday, I carry liability & uninsured with a $1000 "total loss" clause. If the car is damaged beyond the $1000 threshold they pay me the Grand so I can replace the car & keep working (so I can pay the premiums LOL) I have Ins. thru MetLife @work. I negotiated the $1000 clause with a local agent & had it added to my policy. THe costs run like this... I'm 35 w/ a clean driving record & I have 2 cars insured (the other being a '95 Taurus Wagon) My ins. costs $19/Wk. it was $16/Wk before the $1000 clause.
