I am looking for a used engine for my 1978 Pinto.
It needs to be the 2.3 L engine and needs to run. My engine has bad blowby out the dipstick tube and valve cover, so I need to replace it.
Thanx

I have a 2.3 L engine in a 1974 mercury bobcat and an auto trans that works well also. 37000 miles. The frame is too rusty for the car to be worth restoring, so im quite willing to part it out.
How much for it? and where is it located?
Im located in PEI, Canada. If you havent noticed, im the same guy you want to buy the rims and radio trim from. I dont have a clue what a 2.3L with that mileage is worth. Ill do a bit of research on that. did you want the tranny too? Im not sure what shipping on this would cost but it would be somewhat pricey.
I am just needing an engine.. my tranny was fixed with some fluid and a downshift linkage.
How close to New York or PA are you?
Well, i know its about a 6 hour drive to get to the new brunswick/maine border.
Hey, thats a great map. So did you get an engine yet?
unfortunately no. The guy that I was gonna get a motor from was b.s.ing me, as I could never get him to call me back about the engine. He always had it, but never would get ahold of me, so I'm gonna pull one from a car in the junk yard, & just go through it real good. I'm talkin all gaskets, timing belt. If I had the tools to do it I would check the rings & such, but I don't so I'll be chancing the engine will be good, but Oh well.
I'm still looking for a motor if someone out here near me has a known good one.
Good luck........ :)
Thanx.. I'm gonna need it.
In the mean time I'm starting to get the replacement parts I'll need for the car to atleast run on the motor it's got.. all the crappy electrical stuff that could fail on the car..
and then I'll refill the oil since it's all burning away. I was telling my boss today I got about 5 gals of used oil to recycle, but the Pinto's current engine is using so much oil I got a recycling center under the hood.. Good thing I don't run it too much, as it gets rather smoky everywhere. ;D
If you don't mind using a fuel injected motor there is one for free in PA here http://www.foureyedpride.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12990. For the life of me I can't remember if there is just a block off plate for the mechanical fuel pump or if they just didn't have a hole there.
Wouldn't mind using a fuel injected motor, but that's too far to drive, even for a free motor. The amount of cash I would use in gas would equal the price of a used motor from U Wrench It, which warranties all their parts for 30 days.

I wish I was as smart as you. But instead I drove all the way to NY from Fl to pickup this rust bucket I have in my driveway.
I don't know how smart I am, as the Pinto I got needs alot... engine, complete front suspension, radiator support, frame strengthening( just a precaution for a 25 year old car)
So, don't feel too bad. we all do the same thing you did, at one point or another. You'll get your Pinto fixed up somewhat, just as I will as well with mine. ;)
Got a motor guys... Thanx to pintoman I got a motor for 25 bux, and started to tear it doen to freshen it up a bit, and fouind no sludge in the valve cover and minimal sludge on the bottom of the oil pan from the engine sitting with oil in it.
I'm replacing anything I can to make sure it's all set to install into my car, like all seals. It does have a good crosshatch pattern & has no movement of the pistons in the bores, so I'm thinkin it's a decent engine. :)
I have a 88 fuel injected 2.3 Mustang motor & a 80 pinto 2.3 Carburated motor. Both ran when pulled out. I need room in my garage! I live in Stockton, Maryland. Just thought I would let you know just in case you need another one or knows somebody who needs one. Both have 130K on them. Need oil pan, and pickup for the 80 2.3. 88 is a rear sump oil pan. PRICE ($30 80 pinto 2.3) ($50 88 efi Mustang 2.3)
