I got my copy yesterday, but didn't get a chance to read it until tonight. Lo and behold, two Pintos on page 33. Apparently, Al 'The Lawman' Eckstrand was using them in driving safety demonstrations using all Fomoco products, for U.S. armed service members stationed overseas. The photo is included with several others from Eckstrand's life, and the article is a touching tribute to the man, who passed away May 10th of this year.
The caption of the photo reads: "In a 2000 letter to Don Garlits, Eckstrand related the story behind making this rare 1971 photo at the Marine Corp Monument in Washington, stating that only the highest level people at the Department of Defense could get this sort of access. Officials at the Department of the Interior were very nervous."
On a side note, I would love to see a set of these wheels. Anyone know who made them?
Very Nice, the wheels are sweet as well. I saw a Lawman Boss a few years back on some show, it was bought by the wrestler Goldberg. He wisely let a pro take it down the quarter mile so it wouldn't get wrecked. The other one was crushed by a sea container when it was going oversees. I didn't know about the pinots and mavericks though, very sweet cars.

The wheels are Motor Wheel "Flies" or maybe it's "Flys". I think
I remember seeing them in the gallery on Dyno Dons car. I think
he used them for a time.
