Title: What engines and original Pinto specs?
Post by: racehome on September 01, 2004, 08:37:01 PM
Hey guys,

What engines bolt right into the 1971 through 1980 Pintos?  For instance, can you bolt a 1988 Turbo Coupe 2.3L motor directly into a 1971 Pinto?

Who makes swap kits for bolting V-8's into Pintos.  What headers are required?

Is there a website that has original specs on a 1971, 1972, 1973, or 1974 Pinto?  I found weights on this site, but could not find all the specs... like length, width, horsepower ratings, gear ratios, etc.

Thanks,
Tony Huntimer

in a 71-73, the 2.0 and 1.6 bolt right in. They changed the engine compartment a little in 74 with the intro of the  2.3. any engine that was in a 74 and up pinto or identical car (2.3, 2.8, 302) will bolt right in with the right motor mounts. The 2.3 and later engines found in 74's and up wont go into a 71 without cutting out the old motor mounts and welding in the later style mounts. Also, when putting a 2.3 or 2.8 in a 71-73 pinto, the engine compartment is shorter (unless i'm just crazy) but for the 2.3, the radiator can be used in the stock location, assuming you dont run a mechanical fan. The bolts on the water pump pully clear the radiator by about 1/4th of an inch. For a 2.8 in the early style pintos, I moved the radiator on the other side of the front support. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I've had the original 1.6 in my pinto, i swaped to a 74 2.3, and then to an 82 2.8L from a ranger. Just let me know if you need anything.
