After over a month in the glass shop to have the new windshield resealed - they just couldn't get it right- I got a call today from the guys saying the car was ready. It was late in the day and I couldn't get out there in time. So they parked my Pinto Cruising Wagon outside for the night, and here in the big city, it's Beggars' Night. The little demons will be out looking to make mischief, and my car is outside across from the skateboard/bicycle park on fricking Halloween.... I only have one set of keys, and they have them in the shop. No one is answering the phone as they are closed, and I can't find anyone to help. I am nearing apoplexy at this point and just have to let it go for the night. I'm so mad I can't see straight and there is nothing I can do. ##@!!!
Pick the locks! Get it out of there!!
take your ID and your title or a copy of registration and get it towed. a small price to pay for piece of mind. if your reg is in the car, they (tow company) or you may be able to jimmy the lock and get into the car. Pintos are not hard at all to get into if the plastic topper is still on the door lock 'button'. all it takes is a coat hanger folded back on itself. Took me five minutes to get into my 87 Mustang the same way, and four minutes of that was finding a coat hanger at work.
Well, as it turned out, the Purple Pinto survived the night unscathed. They took it into the shop in the morning, I don't know why, and when I came to pick it up, it wouldn't start. I replaced the solenoid after we tried to jump it, but no go. So I had AAA take it to my house and ordered a starter on the way. But at least she's home safe!
Glad to hear your car is safe at home! I can't use the coat hanger trick on the lock knobs, my car has 80s escort 'smooth' knobs, but I have AAA too. Invaluable peace of mind.
FlyerPinto, I too am glad to hear your pony escaped unharmed. Maybe any kids coming near it were in awe of the mighty Pinto? That is what I will say is what happened.
disco, below is a technical drawing of my soon to be patented 'NEVR-Fail' Door Lock Jimmy. Look for it at major retailers near you!
Clever!
This might be the obvious but...how 'bout making up a second set of keys now that you have 'em back...you never know.... :look:
Kind of funny to think about the painfully obvious that managed to escape me, but yeah, a second set of keys is in the making. And believe me, no one ever felt more sublimely clueless than I did when I found out I did have another key, on the same ring that was with the car! Forrest bloody Gump here...
