Title: Crash course Pinto info?
Post by: pintogirl on October 29, 2008, 07:42:11 PM
Hey there,

I am a total newbie to Pintos, well kinda, my Mom had one when I was a kid!! LOL  I am going to look at a couple of Pintos this weekend, in hopes on purchasing them. They are listed as 1970's, but I can't seem to find parts for that year. First year for parts is 1971. So, does am guessing that these cars I am going to look at are first year models??

What is the year range for the Pinto?

Also, what is the correct name for the trunk style of Pinto? That is the style I am after, so it would be great to know it's proper name!!

One more for you all, what is another name for throw out bearing?? I can't seem to find it on auto parts web sites, I use Partstrain, but can't find it on other sites either.

Thanks,
Kim

the first pinto hit the market in 1971, and continued until 1980. Just 9 years. Some people refer to the trunk model as a coup, or as a sedan. As far as the throw out bearing, that's the only name that I have ever known. Hope this helps...

Try the links below. They might help you out some...

www.NapaOnLine.com (http://www.napaonline.com) shows three different "Clutch Release Bearings" for a '71 2.0L Pinto (they apparently ignore the 1600).

If looking for mechanical parts, rockauto.com is a great place to order from. Parts are usually a fraction of the price of a auto parts store like shucks or autozone.
