Post by: matt68 on October 28, 2008, 06:58:30 PM
Ok, here's a tricky one...Does anyone know if there is a source to instructions on how to assemble and mount a 1977 luggage rack on my Bobcat runabout? I got one from Green's Auto in Ohio and it is original...but came dissasembled.

The tricky part is going to be removing and replacing the headliner. If you have a local upholstery shop, they may be able to remove it, you can do your thing, and they can then replace it (hopfully wrinkle free). I believe the factory used the same mounting as the mirrors with the riv-nuts. You MAY be able to just use sheet metal screws to hold it and not take out the liner. Others on this board may be able to comment on this. Either way, make sure you put good sealer under the little base feet to stop any potental leaks/rusting. I was a Service Writer for Toyota and AUDI and both service depts sent the headliner work out to save the hassle and potential problems if you want to do it like the factory. Just a thought.

Matt 71hanto is right riv-nuts is the way to go. If you want to pay shipping I will let you use my kit 6-32 through 1/4 - 20.  Fred   :)

Check out this link...this is perfect for any kind of body work, or attaching. This is the same stuff that companies use on new cars, or repairs. It works GREAT! Lifetime repairs, military hummers are put together with this stuff!!

I used this to put a sheet metal roof on a '33 Dodge coup for a friend, and you can't get it off without a tourch!

Yeah, It was my Bobcat on Ebay. Our Family truckster took a s**t and we were going to buy a new SUV. My wife stipulated that a brand new car would not be sitting out in the elements this winter and that I would have to sell the Cat if we were going to get it. Well, the bobcat didnt sell (my reserve was only $2,500) so it looks like I get to keep her. She is NOT going outside this winter!

Hey matt68:

What you need for your Bobcat is a car capsule.  Here is
the link.  That way you can keep the new SUV inside and
keep your cat under wrap.   ;D

That is pretty cool, but $600.00 is almost halfway to an engine re-build!

Never did do the roof rack.  I want to wait until spring to tackle that. I got it at Green Auto Sales in Ohio. they are NOS and OEM Ford/Lincoln/Merc parts specialists.
