Title: family truckster
Post by: apintonut on October 27, 2008, 01:52:50 AM
the start

80 ford pinto wagon  in very poor condition. some one used for a back yard  rally toy. blown #4 piston, shocks and rack are shot, interior is ruff some one removed the stereo with ? sleg hammer? pry bar? chain saw? i dont know.

step one

get a 80 sedan and part out and get allot of good stuff and it had a   2.3 that ran strong and a c3 with stage 2 shift kit
well got the engine in and earthquake came over and got it running right and loaned me a carb to do so.

the why

the reason i got the car was that me and my women (gf)  have 2 big dogs that dont quite fit in a sedan and i dont like having them in the back of my truck. plus we like to camp and after the sell of my ranger that's main purpose was to take camping we were in need a of a bigger vehicle that gets better than 20 mpg.  with a auto the wife could drive.

the goal

well the original goal was to lift it for better ground clearance and hall all the crap we lug out to no were.   and then came project beentoad ( http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php/topic,10380.0.html (ftp://http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php/topic,10380.0.html) ) and the family truckster would need to tow this too. so even stiffer rear suspension. and maybe lower the rear gear but dont want to lose high way drive ability. as i may also use it to drive from seattle w.a. to portland o.r. on week ends

Oh yeah!  DUH!  I actually drove around with that car's battery for awhile!  It is a solid little car.  I can't wait to see it lifted.  Of course, it would be even cooler to put it on a Bronco II 4x4 chassis to really get into the out of the way places.  But a front and rear lift with a locker in the rear axle is pretty good too.

That first one is kind of what I was thinking about, but it looks a bit unstable.     I would add wheelie bars and an exterior roll cage before I did any serous off-roading in that one.

And the lincoln in that second video just looks dumb.

the tree was about 24" accost and 150' tall/long and probly weighed 6-7,000 lb's

i have a couple of ideas cut off the roof and make a pintaro or pull all the good parts and then go rally the f**k out of it and try to get my money back in short lived fun

im thinking ranger 4x4 if i go that rout that way i could use the back of the cab and the bed but not sure if i want to take on  the project. ive also thought of just trying to fit the front end of a 79-80 on a ranger too.

Sorry Brian, that sucks.  I would try and find another wagon and swap everything that is good and part out the rest.

well snow is for the most part gone the wagon is less than i would imagine posible as the tree was so heavy it popped the tires but its still a total unless i want a pintaro the green 73 is less too. a few dents that my body guy will fix and some new shocks and were good i wish some one here wanted a pintaro i really dont but do want a 72-6 wagon this time or maybe a 79-80 if its a good deal

That was how my first pinchero started in 1972. Back then it was too new for junk yard parts to fix it. Now its too old for parts. Your cut lines look good though. Good luck. BWB
