Title: pin-out for key switch
Post by: dholvrsn on October 22, 2008, 09:20:36 PM
Does anybody know the pin-out for an ignition switch for a '79 Pinto? I can get voltage to the wire to the ignition module in run mode but not in the start mode. I have the two yellow wires from the battery connected to the B pins and the white and blue wire to the module connected to pin I1. The schematic says that I1 should be hot in both run and start modes but it isn't. I took the switch apart the the contacts don't even work that way. According to the parts manual, it is the correct switch. This is really torquing me off. Anybody know what's up?

I had the exact opposite situation, run in the start position, and the engine would die in the run position. I am not familiar with the later models only the 1975, however the way I solved the problem was to adjust the electrical part of the the ignition switch. The procedure is in FORD shop manuals. Best of all is that it dos not cost any money to try.

Did you ever get this fixed?

I believe that the procedure lencost is talking about is to slide the switch further up or further down the steering column. That way when the switch rod is pushed "down" (forwards) to start the car and then back to the run position, that it does not pull the switch past the run position. Make sense??

It's a lot easier to understand once you drop your column and see for yourself how the switch mechanism works.

I ended up splicing the I1 and I2 wires together.

The schematic in the Ford manual was wrong. Did any other turbo swap guys have this problem?
