This should help you out if you haven't gotten the heater core changed yet.

heater core removal instructions

step 1 - drain the radiator

step 2 - disconnect battery and remove

step 3 - in the engine compartment disconnect the 2 hoses that come out of firewall (1 to the water pump and one to the carb going over the valve cover)

step 4 - remove the bolts for the heater blower motor and disconnect any wires for the blower motor to firewall.

step 5 - remove the passenger seat

step 6 - remove the glove box door and glove box

step 7 - remove the fresh air vent pull on passenger side

step 8 - remove the passenger vent and duct from vent to heater core

step 9 - helpful to remove the under-dash coin tray and radio for more room to work/see (don't recall if this is "required")

step 10 - remove the heater control cables from the heater core, do not lose the "clamps" that hold the cables in place.

step 11 - remove the power wire for the blower motor.

step 12 - remove the duct work from the heater core assembly

step 13 - once everything is disconnected from the heater core assembly... I "think" there is 1 bolt that must be removed to pull the assembly out... to the right of the glove box and look up.

step 14 - remove the heater core assembly, hoses will come with... be sure to remove the clamps before you pull thru the fire wall.

step 15 - once the heater core is out... pull the hoses off and get new clamps and hose to reinstall

step 16 - To open the heater core assembly - have to remove all the clips that hold it together, be careful the assembly can be easy to break.

step 17 - pay carefull attention to how the heater core comes apart and all the little pieces/flaps. A camera comes in real handy - taking pics step by step.

Hope this helps

I gotta tell you - this is the stuff I LIVE for on this group - THANKS r4Pinto for writing that up. I wish in general we had a "restoration manual" for Pintos - this kind of info is invaluable.

You need to insert a few missing steps...

Cussing &^%#$&()&^T
Throwing wrenches.
Having a celebratory beer when completed.

Well you do have a point. Gotta have the beer & swearing or it wouldn't be auto repair. As for the throwing of wrenches I prefer to hit the fender sitting outside the house.. I take a big sledge & just pound the crap out of it.
