Option 3: dog dish, no rings and whitewalls

Option 6: dog dish and raised white letters

I'm probably going back to the stock rims, and I'm having trouble making up my mind. I haven't bought the tires yet, so help me decide. I have 4 dogdish hubcaps and 4 deluxe wheelcovers. My car was originally a base model. When I got it the dogdishes were on it with no beauty rings, but it had whitewalls. I don't have any clue what kind of tires came with the car originally, it had two pairs of cheap radials on it when I got it.
Your vote counts!
Chuck
You did not give me the choice on your poll above but I would go with Dog Dish and Raised White Letter. It was "Period" correct for your car and gives it a little edgier look. IMHO
Another vote for dogdish and raised white letters. If your rims are black, trim rings would look snazzy, if that's what you are going for.

Me three!
Next step Dog Dish.
Leonard
ok, I'm gonna start polishing up the dogdishes, they're in the lead!
Chuck
It would definitely depend on the car. When you say deluxe wheel covers I'm thinking the wheel covers with corresponding car color and filly in center. If this white one is bare-bones base then the little early hubcaps, no beauty rims and black walls would look good. The most recognizable hubcaps with the cut-out mag holes with the black walls would be good too. It also depends on what year car it is.
I like whitewalls on the Pinto with the slotted wheel covers. The spoke wheel covers are also nice but I'm kinda partial to the slotted ones.

Point taken. tomorrow I will gather up the stock rims with the best whitewall (a Continental bias ply) and the best blackwall, I will post a pic of the wheel I have now, one with the dog dish and one with the "common" full wheel cover, on the car and detailed.
Chuck
You could split the difference and run one of each kind of wheel. ;D
i went with body colored rims, dog dish, no beauty rings and blackwalls on mine. i like it.

Hmmmm. Possible to get a smaller dog dish, polish the tires, and add white lettering?
OK Reed, not to kill the thread, but I have been dying to ask ever since you came on board - what's up with your avatar? What is the meaning behind the picture? Enquiring minds want to know :P
Chris
I don't want to get too off topic, so I will suggest you just visit http://www.nacholibre.com/ and poke around. 8)
those are the stock dog dish on 13 inch rims. i dont know if you can get a raised white letter tire in 13??? my goal was to look as base model, stock and slow as possible. hense the lack of beauty rings and white walls. oh yeah...no tire polish. they would be the only shiny things on the car, well, minus the chrome.
as reed said, it all depends on the look your going for.
bob
Ah. Now I see your evil genius. :coolafro: How about no dog dish but chrome lug nuts?
i dont know about the chrome lug nuts....dont want too many options on this car. maybe some new steel ones??
bob
Just so long as they are shiny.

Hay! Turbo74pinto
That is what I found when I looked in to 13" white letter tires, However...
This is a tire lettering pen that I purchased from the local Harley shop part # 98625. Below are picks that sow the first attempt at lettering. The white smudge on the tire is aluminum polish. Harley-Davidson recommends that you use their wheel & tire cleaner # 94658-98,and thee Harley Black #94628-05 however the Haley black is no longer available. Have some tooth picks handy for what gets out of line.

googone and q-tips work great to clean mistakes also .
those letters turned out nice lencost!! nice to know that the white letter 13s can still be had....kinda.
bob
After some horse trading I have Dog Dish hubcaps!
That looks so cool Leonard! ;D
I've decided on 14" Fairmont rims with dog dishes. I'm going to paint the wheels white or blue (haven't decided), no beauty rings, and I'm trying to decide on stripes or something...it looks too plain.
I got new center caps for my aftermarket rims to hold me over till I can get tires. I want 4 the same size. How big can you go on the front without problems? Will 195/75R14's work? I have 185/60R14's on the front right now.

pintokite measure the back spacing of your wheels, and the wheel width, and post that info. Personally I do not know what will, and will not fit a Pinto. The only wheels I have had on my Pinto are 13's
you can fit the 15x7 mustang rims with 205/60 R15's on the front, you might have a little run depending on the year and state of the Springs/Shocks
looks good lencost!!!

really great Lencost, I wish Coker Tire would re-issue the white letter 13's. Maybe if we all call and ask for 'em..... ???
I did the same thing on some raised BLACK letter Vogue tires in about 1970 using a white grease pencil. It looked good for a long time til' didn't pay attention and kissed my first curb parking >:(

Disco,
You been spying on me? I have Fairmont rims for my 78, too :surprised:. I'm going to paint mine gloss black and use beauty rings with chrome lugs. Let us know what tire you use and I'll follow your lead.
