Title: Looking for an original part number
Post by: dave1987 on October 17, 2008, 02:25:42 AM
I'm looking for the original Ford part number for the differential pinion preload spacer/crush sleeve to a 6.75" rear end. I'm going to try and do some research and see if I can get in contact with Ford about the original part, possibly get measurements and technical information on it and then see if I can find someone to reproduce some or find a substitute that would work.

I received and envelope from a somebody in a Yahoo! Pinto group four or five years ago with exploded views and diagrams of Pinto sections, followed up with a page that included part names and numbers. I tore the envelope by the return address and all I have left is the last name...Baxter. Whomever it was, photocopied the pages from a catalog for me and sent me the info. If that somebody reads this, would you pretty please reply, or if someone knows this somebody could you PM me with a way to get in contact with them?

UPDATE: I found out what it is Baxter sent me. It is the crash guide for the Pinto.

I spent some quality time with Kyle at the parts desk for Ford today and was able to squeeze some info out of him! He found the part number for the preload spacer, and although he does not have it in the state, he did pull up a list of stores around the US who still have a few, as well as their phone numbers. Their inventories were updated last on 10/13 up to today (10/17).

Part Number D1FZ4662A

Quantity | Name | Location | Phone Number

(2)  Nortz & Virkler Inc. in Lowville, NY -- (315)376-6594

(1)  McCrocklin Ford Sales Ince in Middletown, IN -- (765)354-2261

(2)  Bob Allen Ford Inc. in Overland Park, KS -- (913)381-3000

(1)  Red Taylor Ford Inc in Corning, AR -- (870)857-3518

(1)  Sour Lake Ford in Sour Lake, TX -- (800)835-3247

(2)  Kinsel Lincoln Mercury in Beaumont, TX -- (800)816-2894

(3)  Dale James Ford Inc. in Apple Creek, OH -- (330)698-7777

(1)  Countryside Ford Inc. in Navarre, OH -- (330)879-2124

(1)  Guy M Fish Company, Inc. in Spartansburg PA -- (814)654-7311

(2)  Roth Ford, Inc. in Petersburg, WV -- (304)257-1828

Must call for a price since it is an obsolete part. The first two can do a 25% and 15% discount through the Ford dealership and the last one has a note saying "Cost - 30% on obsolete parts plus shipping for Ford Dealers".

I will do some calling around and see if I can get two of these, that way I can install one and have the other sent out for reproduction.

Another idea might be to machine a solid spacer and use shims to reach proper preload ala kits available for 9" Ford. In a pinch on some 8.8 rears, we have placed the crush sleeve on the pinion and lightly hammered the raised portion to re expand then carefully retorqued. They collapse with much less effort so you have to be careful--- no impact wrench!! Thanks for the #s, I will try to obtain one myself. Does anyone have #s for 3.55 ring & pinions?

That would be great, phil! Thank you so much!

I was able to get ahold of Bob Allen Ford in Kansas and they want $26.47 for the part. They were the only one open today, but it gave me a good idea on how much other dealerships might charge for it.

I will be calling the others on Monday to see if it may be cheaper somewhere else.
