Title: Let the work begin
Post by: Farmboy on October 13, 2008, 09:35:06 AM
So I got around to pulling the head on my 2.0 last week, I was hopeing that was a needed to be repaired but when she came off I noticed that there was a hole in number 4 piston about the size of a dime, num. 3 piston was'nt to far away from going bad either. So tonite after work I guess I'll pull the motor and break out the engine stand and start rebuilding.

Let the winter project begin ;D

Cool Doc, your my right hand man, glad your gonna be here every step of the way ;D.

Ran into my 1st problem  of the project, call NAPA this morning and they have no pistons and rings at any of there stores of wherehouses across the US. I like NAPA cause I get a really good discount because I own my own business and been dealing with them forever. Where do you guys get your 71 2.0 parts???

  Thanks,

       DVW

I walk out in the back yard to the storage barn and get mine.  ::)

Just Kidding!! If you want stock stuff sometimes you can get new pistons and rings and bearings on e-bay. Type in 2.0 Ford, you will bring up a lot of escort and probe junk but the Pinto stuff is there too. The rings, bearings and gaskets you should be able to get at NAPA.
For performance stuff look at Racer Walsh and Esslinger Engineering.
Are you going to bore the block? If not I think I have a set of stock pistons w/ rods, I also have a set of stock bore Wisco lightweight pistons that I may part with, but they require the rods be honed and fitted with bushings for the floating pins.
I don't have any head or intake gaskets I want to part with but I have lots of the other gaskets if you run into something you can't find.

I'm going to weigh my options for a few day and see what I can come up with, if parts for a 2.0 are going to be this hard to come by I just might have to go with a 2.3 again, Hey Apintonut, what you got for parts that I gave you a while back ;D

You may want to try ebay UK:
http://motors.shop.ebay.co.uk/items/Cars-Parts-Vehicles__W0QQ_nkwZpintoQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZCarsQ2dPartsQ2dVehiclesQQ_sacatZ9800 (http://motors.shop.ebay.co.uk/items/Cars-Parts-Vehicles__W0QQ_nkwZpintoQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZCarsQ2dPartsQ2dVehiclesQQ_sacatZ9800)

They have plenty of interest in the 2.0, and searching for stuff there is easy since they refer to the 2000cc as the 'Pinto' motor.  Only real issue is shipping, as not all of them ship to the other side of 'the big pond.'

Good luck!

ALSO, realize that they had a lot of different things over there compared to the stuff we had here.  Some of it will, but some of it will not, interchange.
