i have been looking on line and on some threads in here to find out all the details of my vin like axle/ trans/ motor and so on!! and i found a cool threard about the build sheet from ford!! called today and asked for my "history 999 report" and it didnt sound to good i was told i would hopefully heard from someone by friday with the results of my report!!?!?!?! but my main question is that i found some info on decoding the door jam codes but to my surprise my bobcat has codes not listed and i was thinking maybe someone might know the answers to my codes!!!!
first one is the trim - BC
secons is color - 5WDW
and third is DSO-23
i have no clue what dso stands for any help with this would be great!!!
thanks for your knowledge!!!
eric
is your car two-tone? my color code is 9D which was originally pretty close to Oxford white, but the car was repainted frost white in 1988. my trim code is AB, and I didn't find anything close to your DSO 23, was that the body code? My body code is 62B, the SCH DATE is 07J Build date was 09/77, Axle 4 Trans 7. I used John Perry's VIN decoder at the bottom of the screen, but all I found out was that my car was made in New Jersey, and the last 6 of the vin is the sequential build number. i.e. my car was the 144, 852 nd pinto built that year, but that confused me because according to another web site there were only roughly 190k pintos built that year and mine was in the first month of the model calendar year.
the body code is a 64h- 3-dr sedan (runabout)
trans -V which is a c3 auto
axle-7 3.55 conventional
and it was 514822 last 6in vin
5=1975
t = metuchen town of build
20= 64h
z= 2.8 v6 ohc
i know most just not three not too bad for a ford guy
!!!!!
if you know the only three i dont i really would like the answers thanks eric!!
DSO is the district code for your car. for a 1975 the code 23 = Memphis
DSO - 23
I have conflicting reports, either Philadelphia, PA, Jacksonville, FL, or Memphis, TN.
Philadelphia came from a 65 Mustang list I found, Jacksonville came from someone looking up an 83 Capri, and Memphis came from the data plate decoder at mustangii.org
**UPDATE**
Well I would surmise that Jacksonville is the most likely candidate considering your location. and the info that was posted in your other thread by 77pintocw http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php/topic,10793.msg68392.html#msg68392 (http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php/topic,10793.msg68392.html#msg68392)
**END UPDATE**
The paint code 5W decodes as orange, DW decodes as a white (the "W") 'Levant Full' (the "D") vinyl roof.
Take into account that the info I got here was from a 1975 Torino book, and may be slightly off.
The trim code "BC" I haven't been able to google search effectively, and I do not have my books here at work.
hey where did you find that search to put in the vin and get all that info!!! it says no a/c but i have factory a/c would love to put in the vin and see what it says!!! thanks

Oh, and I just figured out that if you do not have the date/vin correct, it will not find most of the right codes for paint/trim because the way the decoder is set up, the tables it looks up are specific to year.
Hopefully if you add ALL your info into the decoder, it will sort it out a bit better?
Good luck!
P.S.
The A/C block is kinda hard to read on the decoder, but it should be the block after the trans code.
thanks for the website link ill check it out!!
thanks
eric
Here is another good source I just found:
http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/decode/ (http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/decode/)
I am writing the webmaster @ the Mustang II site to add "5W - Orange" to their list of colors for 1975.
**UPDATE**
I wrote this to Lee Lafountain:
This email is regarding the code list for 1975, specifically the paint codes. For 1975 you are missing a code. The code "5W" is Orange. Over at fordpinto.com forums, we have someone who has this color combination on his 75 Mercury Bobcat. I also found evidence of this being the case from a Maverick site: http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/decode/1975.html
Thank you for a great site, your decoders and calculators have helped me on too many occasions to count, and I love the galleries!
He wrote this back:
Hi Doug,
Thanks!
I just looked at some of my paint chips and confirmed 5W for the Pinto and Maverick only in 74 and 75. I don't currently have any LM chips.
My Ford manuals only list 5W for 74 though and not '75. I guess I need to update my paint chips a bit. I have seen other cases were the manuals don't match the chips.
I've been struggling to find original Ford paint chips for '76 . Once I pick up the '76 chips, I'll be redoing the chips section. I'll also add it to the VIN decoder and charts.
You guys are always welcome to submit entries to our photo galleries - I have a Pinto/Bobcat section that hasn't seen any new entries in a few years.
I've also added in Pinto/Bobcat decoder information as much as I have, so my decoder should be really pretty good for '74-'78. As I get more info from other years, I'll add that too. If you have any Ford shop manuals for other years, I could use a scan of some of the codes pages at the front of the manual to help flesh out the information.

A pretty good guy to deal with as this isn't the first time he and I have emailed each other. Plus, he has a direct link to our favorite site right at the top of their main page.
