My car has a passenger door lock from a different car apparently. The driver's door key also fits the hatchback lock, but I don't have a key for the passenger door. And the ignition key is different also.
So I was wondering what years I can use. And do I have to have a hatchback lock if I change, or would a trunk lock work?
Also, what is the standard for these? Should the ignition be the same key?
The goal is to end up with as few keys as possible.
Thanks,
Russ
For the most part, I believe the locks are the same for all years however I believe the trunk, wagon hatch, and hatchback locks are all different. The wagon and the hatchback use one key for everything. The trunk models have two keys, one for the doors and ignition, and one for the trunk. I would have the hatch lock and both door locks rekeyed to match your ignition key so you are back down to one key. Good luck
The lock cylinders only have one set of tumbles. You can grind the door key on one side and the ignition on the other side of a key.Put the key in the door lock and find the side that opens the door, then take a file and notch the head of the key.The notch tells you which side is up.The tumbles in the door and ignition are are 180 from one another so the key will only work notch up.One key eliminated. Also helps prevent theft.Slows thieves down.
Thanks to both. If I can I will look into just rekeying the locks when finances get better.

There is a 76 Maverick at my local yard which uses the same locks and ignition cylinder as the Pintos. There is a key in the ignition, I can check to see if it works in the doors when I go back there on Saturday with my dad.
They are not sparking shiny but they would still work. PM me if you're interested.
I appreciate the offer, but I can't afford anything right now.
Thanks,
Russ
