When I bought my 80' wagon, the owner couldn't find the keys (the car had been sitting in a field for 18 years...). Does anyone know how to re-key the door locks? I had to pick the door to get in, and I picked the ignition. I can replace the ignition, but I can't find 3 door locks that are keyed alike.....
I have brought Pinto locks to a (semi) local locksmith and have had them rebuilt to what I needed. I can't remember if the lock needed a key to start with, I don't think so, but they can match the locks to a specific key. Also, it cost me about 25 bucks per lock; it might be cheaper to find the three locks you need and have two keys, or find someone selling all 4 locks that match.
I have found that here are not many locksmiths that work on, or even have the parts for the old stuff around here.
Bill
the drivers door lock assembly should have the key code stamped into it. remove it and take it to the lock smith and they can cut the key to that code. should cost no more than having the keys made.
Thanks guys! That's good news. I'll try the only locksmith within a hundred miles of here ( but he charges up the :hypno: )
PintoDriver, if you get the key made for your door lock it should work in the ignition as well.
ebay, they have many reproduction and sometimes NOS sets for bidding and buying.
Good luck
