Title: Leaky windows....
Post by: Reed on October 05, 2008, 01:48:38 PM
 >:(  Well, I discovered this morning that my 71 Pinto has a leak, at least one, on the passenger side of the windshield gasket.  This is in addition to the leak on the driver's side of the rear window gasket (I have a sedan, not a hatchback or a wagon).

The gaskets look okay on a cursory examination, but I haven't pulled the trim to look closely.

Is it possibly to reseal the gaskets without pulling the glass and replacng the gaskets?

If not, does anyone have good used (and cheap) front and rear window gaskets for a 71 sedan?  Mopney is tight and I need to get this fixed soon since I live on the rainy side of Washington State.

Thanks.  :P

Reed. I have been messing around with a white tube of RTV Silicon Sealant that I purchased from a Parts America store.

I pumped a seam in m windshield gasket, about 1/4" wide, full of this stuff. We had some really heavy rain and snow yesterday and it didn't leak at all!

I wouldn't use it and leave it permanently, but as a temporary fix, it works great!

I myself need to fix my rear window gasket, it's leaking in around the bottom corners.

Thanks!  I think i will need to do the silicone fix short term, until i can get new gaskets and spend the time to replace them.

Thanks!

So far so good on my rear window. If you read my post about "foggy windows" you can read exactly what I did to it. I was looking at everyone else's windows this morning (living with my parents right now) and they were fogged, but the Pinto was nice and clear!
