Title: 1971 Pinto front spindle change from 4 to 5 bolt
Post by: Chromazone on October 02, 2008, 09:54:39 PM
Hi, I'm a new member and am looking for advice. I have a 71 Pinto running a 5.0L V8 and would like to upgrade the front end of the car. Currently the car is equipped with disc brakes utilizing 4-bolt spindles. I'm not sure of the origin of this setup but I believe that they may be early (74) Pinto disc brakes. I would like to upgrade the spindles to a 5-bolt set and suspect that I'm not the first person to do this. Can anyone tell me where I may find information on what's needed to do this? I suspect that new calipers may also be required. The engine is producing about 350 hp which is pushing through a Ford 8" rear end complete with 10" drum brakes, I'd like to beef up the front as I need to do a brake job anyway. Thanks

Here is one thread that is devoted to the front brake swap. There is a lot of good info here.  Good luck

HEY,I 'M NOT SURE IF THIS WILL HELP,BUT THERE ARE 5-LUG ROTORS ON THE MARKET THAT WILL BOLT DIRECTLY ON FACTORY PINTO SPINDLES.I HAVE A SET ON MY V8-80 MODEL.I BOUGHT THEM FROM A SPEED SHOP SEVERAL YEARS BACK.THE GRREAT THING ABOUT PINTO SUSPENSIONS IS THAT THEY ARE WIDELY USED ON STREET RODS WHICH THERE ARE COMPANIES BUILDING ALL KINDS OF STUFF FOR THEM.I'M GOING TO BE UPGRADING MY SYSTEM SOON WITH DRILLED/SLOTTED ROTORS. I FOUND A KIT THAT HAS 11"ROTORS W/THE CALIPERS THAT WILL WORK ON THE FACTORY SPINDLES.THE COMPANY NAME IS CLASSIC PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS. THEY ARE ON-LINE AT WWW.CLASSICPERFORM.COM   THE ROTORS I HAVE NOW I BOUGHT OUT OF INDIANNAPOLIS,IN. I THINK... IT WAS RALPHS HOT RODS.

Great info but the early Pintos have different spindles & calipers, and the later stuff might not work without some work.
