While I had my transmission down today, I jotted down all the numbers on the trans body.
The gear box has this on it's tag:
78ET CA
FOG 8B 22F
The clutch fork had this:
D52A 7515 AC
And the bell housing had this:
D52A-6994-AA
I know that the clutch fork and bell housing codes are part numbers, but is the gear box's code like a VIN number and give specific info on what type of transmission it is, as well as gear ratios?
The 78ET CA means something. 78 may be the year model, (not sure about that) and the CA gives clues about the gear ratio. Back when I was dirt track racing I had all of the ratios written down, the 71-73's had the lowest 1st and 2nd ratios. IIRC there were four; AA,BA,CA,&DA. Get someone at the Ford dealer to blow the dust off the old books if you need the ratios, thats where I got them.
Looks like I'm in for a stop at the dealership tomorrow! :D
Thanks a bunch 71pintoracer!
theres actually a decoding thing in the pinto/bobcat haynes manual. it gives you year and ratios.
bob
iirc the numbers cast into the parts themselves do not necessarily directly translate to correct PART numbers
