What color could I paint my sport mirrors that would look good against the canyon blue that is on the car now?
I suppose I could go down to the auto paint supply store and have the existing blue re-mixed and then put into spray cans (I don't have a good air brush or the money to buy one), but I think the paint shop would charge a pretty penny to have that done.
A satin black would be a neutral color, and black goes okay with almost any color, but is there anything else I could do?
If you do so with a black use a satin finish probably not a gloss or a flat... Think of it as matching the color and texture of your tires....
I wonder what a Stock Pinto color like the silver that came on the Cruising wagons...

Now that I've got a few problems fixed with the car, it's back to the mirrors!
I'm a little bit weary about painting them black. Would it clash too much with my current blue?
I'm wondering that if I do, should I paint the window frames too? Only problem is, I really don't want to do that to my brother's nice paint job on the car.... :-\
Satin black will go good with that blue. As far as painting anything else, it might not look right. Just the mirrors.
What color is your dash? Paint them the same as your dash, or satin black. Just my opinion.
The dash has a cap on it from 1AAuto, which isn't exactly a glossy black but it isn't matte either.
Here's what I've started to do with the driver's side mirror. I removed all of the old paint with aircraft remover and then sprayed on a couple coats of adhesion promoter. After that dried I sprayed three coats of gloss black. They look VERY nice in the gloss black, and have a mirror finish on them right now!
Now my question is....After the black has dried, should I spray a regular gloss clear coat, or should I do a matte clear coat? The gloss clear coat would keep them looking very shiny and very reflective, similar to the paint. I have used the matte clear coat on this gloss black paint before for the center console and it gives the paint a satin finish.
I'm leaning towards the matte clear coat, as I think the glossy finish may make the mirrors to flashy for the car and throw off the side profile.
I'm really looking for input on this before I go through with the clear coat sealing process. It isn't fun to paint something one way then not be happy with the product, just to strip it again and start over.
I'd go with the matte. The factory color on my mirrors are matte black, and they look great. I would agree with you on the gloss, it would be to shinny and clash with that pretty blue. Go with the matte...
Alrighty. The driver's side mirror is dry enough to handle, so here are some photos of what it would look like on the car.
And a couple more.
Does it stand out to much or does it look alright? I'm going for a more sportier look on the car (no pun intended). Does it look okay or should I just have them painted the same color as the body when I have the car re-done in a few years?
That looks GREAT!!! My better half says she would paint the gas cap the same as the mirrors, and she's been pretty good on her judgment with my old pickups for a very long time. As far as the way it looks now, I really like it! :fastcar:
Good to hear. About the gas cap...I would but the cap's seal is bad. I've yet to break down and pay $22 for a new Stant locking cap from Schucks. The one I bought from Autozone locks, but doesn't seal worth a darn.
looks really nice, The blue hides the mirrors nicely =D I am thinking about doing mine in Platinum silver, to contrast the Laser red im doing.
The black looks fine but, personally, I would have gone blue to match the rest of the car... just my opinion. The fact of the matter is: it's YOUR car so do it the way YOU want it. Enjoy!

I was wanting to do blue, but since I'm planning to repaint the car in a few years with the Stallion paint scheme.....$52 for a spray can of custom mixed paint isn't really worth it right now.
I hear that loud and clear! ;D
