Title: Acceleration
Post by: fastfred on September 14, 2008, 11:43:46 AM
Hi Folks,

I posted this on FAQ's but may be more appropriate here.

I have a custom car with what I believe is a 1978 Pinto 2.3 liter motor a 3 speed trans.

It runs smoothly, sweetly and is good on gas. It has poor acceleration and doesn't want to rev much past 3000rpm.

The motor was rebuilt 3300 miles ago and has good compression. See enclosed photo.

Should I be using 89 octane gas and 10/30 oil. It is using synthetic. It came with a AC Delco spare oil filter PF13.  This filter is not as long as the filter in place right now?

Any help would be great.

Thanks  Fred

can u free rev it past 3000 rpm? if not u may have carb issues.  also what is your gear ratio?  what is the 3 speed out of? u may what to consider a t5 out of a 79-93 mustang 2.3

Yes it will free rev just fine.

Not sure what the trans is out of but the gearing is good, does about 2000 rpm at 40 to 45 mph in 3rd (top)
