I'm trying to decide whether or not I should put the newly painted Steel Styled wheels on the car or leave the full wheel covers. What do you guys and gals think?
i like the Styled wheels personally. i hate having hubcaps.
Definitely the styled wheels - the only time that hubcaps look good is with white walls, IMHO.
Chris
My opinion is since the sides of the car are kind plain..or clean with no trim/bumper guard or stripes I would say the Rally wheels. add dept to the wheel wells. If you went hub cap the little center caps with beauty rings would have the same effect as the Rallies..I think the full cap is too shallow bringing the surface to the edge of the wheel..making the side of the car look open and empty, almost sterile.
Lookin good

PS: I rather have hub caps than some of the GOOFY LOOKING after market wheels.
No, No Frank! If I could get 22" wheels under my wagon it would be AWESOME (NOT)!!
Chris
lmao. yeah i would take hub caps over some of the aftermarket crap too lol. but i plan on putting the american racing torq thrust D serieson the bobcat

Yah I saw a early Wagon just this summer that had some Goober wheels on it..but it looked so sleek and clean before in its stock caps....ewww..gave me the giblies
Its not always the case! just most the time.

Ditto what Frank said (in the upper part).
Pinto's always attracted me with their rather large and wide wheel wells. But..., if they are not filled properly the car can look like it is running on "space saver spares." A lowered Pinto looks OK to me with nice 13's, but I think 14's or 15's look best. In all cases I think deep looking wheels give the best appearance. Hubcaps do not provide that.
I'm too "old school" to appreciate anything larger but I'm sure there are wheels in those sizes that look fine too. In the end it is the owners choice.
Can I start the "Just say no to hubcaps" movement. Mind you this is meant as no offense to those who desire a perfectly stock Pinto. You willingness to preserve an original gets my admiration too.
Tom
The styled wheels were the top of the line and really make Pinto's look great. I guess that I am an accessory guy but I always try to put the best on my cars. The small and full Pinto wheelcovers have their place too on stock non deluxe cars.
Wow, so many comments so fast! lol
Thanks for all of the input guys, I think I will be going with the steel styled wheels. I just threw them on the car to see how they'd look in a picture and from a distance and parked it in front of the house.
I will have the cruddy tires removed and better ones put on and then have them balanced. I will hopefully have this done next week. I'm just waiting for the paint and clear coat to get really hard before les schwab messes with them. :P
I'm a little late weighing in here, but just for the record, Dave, I think the styled wheels look best if you're going to stick with blackwalls. My personal favorite combination is the dog dish hubcaps with beauty rings and whitewalls. I special ordered my first Pinto new and that's what I asked for. My current Pinto had the whitewalls and hubcaps when I bought it, and I found the beauty rings on eBay. Love that look!
Dwayne
I plan to keep the black walls for now, but when I get a complete set of new tires, I plan to get something with raised white lettering or do that myself to a set that it won't look like crap on lol.
Good to see that my hours of labor restoring these wheels won't go to waste. Thank you everyone for the modivation! :D
Dave,
Just a hint on the Steel wheel issue, If you can still find a set of 13X7 steelies, the dog dish caps with trim rings make the car look like a Mini Mach 1 mustang. My car has a set of 13X7.5 steelies with different offsets for the front and rear. With B50-13 Kelley Charger bias ply tires, and the race lowering, there was little space around the tires and 9.5 inches of tread width!
When the car was still street registered, I could drive the gas station attendants nuts trying to guess how big a V8 was under the hood. Of course, there was only a hopped up 2.0L with webers. Still got rubber through 2nd and a Chirp in 3rd while driving away!
ahh the eighties...

I like the styled steel wheels better than the full wheel covers. If you plan to go RWL in the future, then they will definitely look better IMHO.
