Hi fellow Pinto freaks. Finally getting started on Grandma's 73 Runabout after all these years. My main car from 1981 to 1987, and now a project waiting to get started. Fantastic shape, but I need a few parts and have ?? re: the gas tank bladder or shield. Car runs great, when I fire it up in Spring and Fall, but had a little issue with gas leaking on my last adventure to the gas station. Nothing like parking a leaking Pinto next to the gas pumps, eh? Think the seal has broken inside the tank. Am I warm? Do I post this stuff to the classifieds, new project area or ? Don't want to offend those who are far more savvy with this website. Thanks in advance for any responses.
Check fuel hoses 1st at tank then the rubber gromet for filler neck. If you need shield for front of tank its FREE you pay ship.. Fred :)
I had a similar issue when I first started driving my Pinto after rebuilding the engine.
I fueled up at the gas station (full tank), went inside to get a drink, came back out and there was a puddle of gas on the ground under the tank. It wasn't from overfill, it was from the filler neck seal at the tank. It had rotted and cracked so badly that it would leak everything that was at or above the hole.
A few months later I was able to track down the seal at the Ford dealership, which they had in stock, and haven't had an issue since!
Here is the Ford part number if it turns out to be your problem:
E1AZ9072B
I believe it was $12.95, but has given me more back than that in fuel, so it has already paid for it self. :D
I had to buy a half dozen Filler seals my self.. it seems they do shink and crack like stated above...
heres another vendor of them if you can't get one at the dealership.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I've had this same problem for about two years and haven't found the stupid filler neck seal. Thanks!
You can also try these guys http://www.gas-tank.com/ I had a leak in mine the sending unit was bad, I just sent it out, got it back and put it in.
