Title: Barn Find!!!
Post by: 78squirewagon on September 08, 2008, 06:43:54 AM
I had to add pictures of this CRAZY Corvair powered BMW Isetta as well as this BEYOND CRAZY Hemi powered hot rod that was at a car show yesterday. I only have so much room on Photobucket  ;D

Anyway, a friend of mine had been seeing this baby blue wagon sitting next to this guys barn for a while so he finally went over to ask about it for me. As you can tell it's pretty far gone and not worth trying to save. While he was there the guy takes him inside the barn to show him the real reason the wagon was outside. He had/has a 1980 Bobcat sitting in a corner with (MAYBE) a bad moter and he bought the 78 wagon to do a swap. The cat is in GREAT shap with just a little surface rust on the bottom of the doors (at least from what I saw. It could be worse and they could be rotted away). The interior needs a good cleaning (looks like mildew) but is in GREAT shape. Only 81000 miles. It was his wifes car and I guess it started smoking through the breather cap one day so they parked it in the garage rather than junking it.
I am getting BOTH cars for 200.oo. I am going to totally part out the wagon unless someone wants to give me 300.oo for it (minus sport mirrors). I see a gas tank for the white one (I bought a while back) as well as sport mirrors and other goodies
Who says you cant find cars in barns anymore.

I am just letting everyone know that unless someone wants the whole wagon , I am going to be stripping it down to pretty much a rolling shell. If anyone see's parts that they want (minus the sport mirrors, gas tank, engine and maybe the bumpers) let me know. It has a blue interior that is shot but the hood looks ok as well as the rear hatch. The spoiler on the rear hatch is in good shape ;D
I would be willing to trade the whole car (ALL PARTS) for a decent 2.3L engine if you can make it to WI.
A side note that I did not mention was that the couple I am getting the cars from just lost their 46 year old daughter to a heart attack a day or so before I was there so I am going to do a small memorial (magnet) on the Bobcat since she used to ride in it. I think I made them a little happier (if only for a short time) knowing that the cat was going to be saved from the crusher.

How good is the roof rack? Does it have a non-AC console under the dash?

I will let you know as soon as I start taking the car apart. That will not be for about three or four weeks because of the family dealing with the death. But it will be fairly CHEAP. Make me an offer. Shipping may be a little steep but I am sure you know that.  Any other parts will be the same. CHEAP plus shipping unless you want to come and get them. I will just need the car GONE after I am done with it.

Any interior pieces on the wagon worth saving?  Like the hatch hinge cover?

I will have to look. I will be going down in the next week or two to start stripping the car apart.

The roof rack is pitted but all there. It does have a none a/c console under the dash and looked OK. I am going down on Friday with a tool box to start stripping the car.

The person that was asking about the hatch cover parts, it's cracked in a few places and not worth saving. The rear interior panels are faded but can be saved. It would take some work to get them perfect but they are there.
The bumpers can be saved if anyone needs a set. Make me an offer plus shipping.
Also, does anyone need engine parts because I am going to (MAYBE) strip it as well.
The sport mirrors are MINE  ;D They are going on the kitty (Bobcat)

Just let me know because it might be going to a friend of mine for scrap soon. If anyone wants the whole car, let me know and come to WI to get it. (Minus sport mirrors)

I would be interested in the luggage rack rails if they're not bent.

Already have bent rails and pitted pot-metal. Still interested in the console.

I will double check to make sure they are not bent and if not, make me an offer plus shipping. I might even be willing to swap out the ones from my white wagon. But they looked OK
