Hello, all you smart guys...
Last night I took the heater control apart as I was diagnosing a radio problem, and found the P.O. (or somebody) had installed the multi-port vacuum block upside down.
After rectifying that, the system started to work, quit leaking, etc...
The A/C had previously been converted to 134, and worked the first summer we had the car.
The system looks to be factory.
I got the system to run last night, and the pressure side got hot, but the suction side was not cold.
Should I change the accumulator and have it vacuumed and re-charged?
What are the most common problems?
OR. is it worth the effort to mess with it?
If not, have any of you bought an aftermarket A/C system, say from the likes of Vintage Air, Old Air, etc..?
I was reading the Vintage Air website, and it would be a pick and choose kit.
NE Texas gets Africa hot, and Louisiana sticky.
Any input would be great.
Thanks,
Mike
I would try one of those $30 autozone recharge kits first. If the system hasn't been functional, it is possible that the coolant has leaked out. Try the recharge kit and go from there.
See if Auto-Z has a loner manifold set, you realy need to know hi + low side press. along with oat (out side air temp) then I can tell you what you need. Fred :)
Fred:
Loaner ? ! !
Loaner, you say ? ! !
You just gave me a reason to go buy some new tools.
The days of the sight glass are over... :(
It may be a few days or a couple of weeks, but I will get the gauges, get the facts, and get back with you on it.
Thanks,
Mike
Ok Mike I forgot how to spell hi-school was a long time ago. Youre car is same color as my daughters. Yea get back and give me the #s. Fred :)
Wasn't cracking on the spelling, in fact I didn't notice it until you said something about it. ;D
I was being sarcastic about getting loaner tools when I can buy new tools and have them gather dust until I need them again.
I am the absolutely wrong person to crack on the spelling of others.
thanks,
Mike
Mike I have extra manifolds but no extra hoses. You have any. Fred :)
Fred,
Only been a year and a half, but I have no hoses.
I had a guy in my car club recharge it, and it works great.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike that's funny how you dig this up kinda old. Low side blue gauge you want 40 psi hi side red gauge you want 250 - 300 psi do we have cubes yet  Fred
