Title: leaking cowl? and seat belt light
Post by: powderblue76 on August 31, 2008, 10:46:13 AM
Hello all, long time...
1.
I need some advice on finding the leaks under/in the cowl area of my '76.
When it rains, the floorboards get wet, both sides.
On my '66 Failrlane it is due to the fresh air "turrets" rusting away, what is the normal cause on a Pinto?  ???
It appears to run down about where the windshield stops.
Of course, it may be from a crappy windshield install when the P.O. had it.
The uppers corners leaked until I stopped that will clear silicone.
I would like to have a clue before I take the entire front clip off.
The carpet needs to come out in order to verify the floors aren't already rotting from the inside.
I know I have a "sometimes" leak somewhere around the steering column.
We got hit by a pretty hard storm, and as I was making my way home I hit a good size puddle, SPLAT ! ! a jet of water shot at me from under the dash ! !
That is NOT the normal source of the leak.
2.
Should it be a windshield leak, what is the best way to remove the trim, and the tool involved?
3.
The "Fasten Seat Belt" light stays on these days, and I was wondering if it is the switch or wire that normally goes bad, again before I do a heavy de-construction.
Thanks, and blessings to all,
Mike

Mike:

My '76 wagon has leaks as well, my cowl was jammed up with leaves, and I have a rust hole on the at the lower corner where the windshield meets the cowl. These are common issues, hope you found what you needed in "search", there is plenty there.

I did find some good info, just no time to use it yet.
As always, great site.
