Title: ATTENTION WESTERN WASHINGTON PINTO OWNERS!!
Post by: Ironman on August 30, 2008, 01:39:19 AM
You need to check craigslist for the Seattle Tacoma South King County.

There are several V-6 Runabouts available running and not. There is also a 74 that looks like it can be had Dirt cheap. And a woody wagon. several of these cars have factory alloy wheels.

Brian if you dont grab that green machine in Auburn I'm gonna swoop it up for the wheels. Let me know so asap,.. I'm going down there Saturaday

The woody in Silverdale is a buddy of mine. He wanted $250 not running, but he got it running and wants $750 now. Like I said in the derby post, Ive had 7 wagons in 4 years. Theres tons up here still. Just gotta look. Even with scrap so high, I never saw any going in the scrap yard. I drive by it 4 times a day. I want that 73 woody, but I dont have the $$$ to get it right now....

If I didn't have two vans in addition to my 71 Pinto I would definitely be snapping up a wagon.  But.... :'(

Howdy all,

I just got back from looking at the 74 2 tone green runabout in Auburn.

The car is solid as a rock,.. I believe it was garaged, or under a carport for the majority of its life. The body is almost flawless, the interior is in very good condition, one small blemish on the drivers seat. dash was perfect.

The carpets looked a little faded, otherwise good shape. Of the four stock alloys, 3 have been curbed,  :(

I put a low bid on the car incase they decide to scrap it. I see their truck at the yard all the time. The only thing I really want from the car is the dash pad.  If someone wanted to do some engine work, ( knocking rod ) it would make a great little driver.

I bid $200,.. scrap just took a nose dive so a 1 ton car with four alloys should be about $170 - $180

Do they fit good and not look wierd?

I bought one for a chevy truck once and it looked like a piece of the living room carpet hacked out and thrown on there

The one I used looked very good and you could not tell it was a pad cover ( except ) when you opened the door all the way open, then you could see that the pad cover did not extend all the way down on the side of the pad. There was about a 1/8 difference from where the pad cover ended and the bottom of the original dash pad. Other than that it worked great and I would buy one again. There are several different types though. There is a heavy and thin material. I used the thin material which molded to the original pad nicely. I have heard that the thicker ones do not mold to the pad as well.

Do you remember the name of the Pad/Manufacturer?

I called the car lot in Auburn and they are still pretty well set in stone about getting $600 for the runabout, but nobody has come close to that offer, I'll call back in a day or two and see what the want then.

If the condition is as nice as has been described, $600 is a steal.  I paid $750 for mine with no carpet, rusted out floorboards, faded paint, rust holes in the cowl, non-working heater controls, non-working backup and neutral start switch, missing bumper guagrds, rusty rear bumper, etc...  I kind of wish I had bought this green one instead....

Wouldnt you agree the car is as described Farmboy?
I felt it was in excellent condition for an unrestored vehicle. well except for that whole rod knocking thing

Did you start it? I was curious if it was truly a knocking rod,.. or if it might have a broken flex plate.

I havent seen it in person but 2 friends have stopped by and said it was quite nice, I'm gonna wait a few days and see what the price will do, if I miss out oh well, I have the pinto I wanted back in the 70's when I owned a 71 runabout.
I love my crusin wagon but my wife likes runabouts better, but then she has a 07 Buick Rainer and I hate sitting in that car, she won't drive my 03 dodge 3/4 cummins diesel cause its a 6 speed manual so I guess we're even ;D

Ok,.. well I guess I'll step up to the plate,. some of ya might get a little bent but my intention is to take parts off it.

Brian,.. If you got an nos dash and some other parts I want, I might trade you the car.  Its too nice to scrap but 74's arnt my thing, and the auto with the deluxe ugly green combo package isnt my cup of tea.

It sounds like you guys all missed the boat on that one.  It was worth way more that $500 just from your descriptions and sight unseen.

No rubbing it in.  lol jus kidding,.. the car didnt get crushed and thats pretty much the whole point. I would have parted it, or traded it for the parts I want. It probably wouldnt have got crushed anyway, I have kind of an inside with the yard that scraps all their stuff. If it hadnt sold it would have been at the yard tommorrow. It still wouldnt have got scraped cuz ILENE likes me :).  I did however miss out on an original 4 speed maverick by one day. itsa probably a space heater a couple folding chairs and a toyota now. :(
