Title: sway bar mounting on a 71--frame rail thickness
Post by: Reed on August 28, 2008, 08:14:41 PM
Fred Morgan sold me a sway bar and all hardware off of a 74 wagon.  I am trying to mount it on my 72 sedan.  From what I can tell from the pictures Fred kindly included with the sway bar, it looks like the wagon frame rails are thicker.

Can anyone confirm this for me?  I know I need to drill the holes for the brackets, but can anyone confirm or deny that the later frame rails are thicker (taller) than the 71 rails?  Would someone with a factory way bar be willing to post some pics of how the bracket bolts to the frame rail and include a tape measure for reference?

Thanks a million!

I want to make this one work, and if all else fails I will fabricate my own brackets.  I just wanted some confirmation about whether or not the frame rails got taller post 1971 or were taller on the wagons.

Reed the vertical measurement on 2ea 71s is 2 and 3/4 " on wagons and runabouts 74 on up it is 3 and 3/4 "  Fred  :)

Aha!  Thought so.  Thanks Fred!  Looks like I will be breaking out the welder and the flat iron and doing some fabricating.
