Title: Pinto Brake Rebuild kits - any sources?
Post by: popbumper on August 25, 2008, 02:45:45 PM
I know I can order piece-parts from just about any local Auto Zone, etc., or through the internet. What I would like though is a source for a full brake rebuild kit, that is, someone who carries all the parts for one price.

For what? 1976 Pinto Wagon, specifically.

Anyone? I looked on PST's web site, but not sure they have a Pinto specific offering (searching on Pinto specifically only brings up front end kits, etc.).

Three day weekend coming up - want to get some work done. Thanks!

So nobody here has done a brake rebuild - wow.

At least no one has found an outfit that sells a complete rebuilding kit with every needed part.  You will need to buy the parts piecemeal.  Do you want a wheel cylinder kit, a rebuilt wheel cylinder or a new wheel cylinder.  There are too many options.

And new or relined brake shoes? Usually return springs and other hardware is not changed during a break job, however you are probably in more of a restoration mode.

What about Kanter(I think, maybe Kantner?)? They advertised in Hemmings back when I used to read it. They had brake kits for just about every car. Been a few years since I have opened a Hemmings though.

Updated- I just did a search. Here is the website for the brake kit for them.

You would have to call them I guess to see exactly what is included, some of the items say "most vehicles" or something.

Thanks guys. I found everything I need at rockauto.com, but I was trying to get a "kit" from one source. As Lencost said, I am in more of a "restoration" mode, so I plan to replace everything.

I will check Kantner. Thanks again!

OK, just picked up a pair of wheel cylinders from Auto Zone - gotta remind myself to not jump in too deep and finish other things first (I was gonna get ALL the brake parts, but as long as I get myself back to HAVING brakes, it will be OK for the time being). I still need to pull my dash and get all of that stuff done first.

Dang, I tell you, I just want to disassemble the whole car. It's a disease.
