Is there a spacer on the fuel pump for a 72 Pinto?

my 72 2.0 has no spacer on it

cuz i just put a new fuel pump on and ran it. when i turned it off and tried to turn it on, it wouldnt start. i took the pump off and the spring and everything came apart. any suggestions?

Sounds like a defective pump...

That or the arm wasn't installed underneath the aux cam lobe, and was installed on top of it, which in turn may have caused slight damage.

Assuming you have a 2.0L engine, the stock fuel pump gasket is about 1/4" thick which could be considered a spacer.  I have not purchased a gasket lately and do not know what they are presently selling but if your gasket is thin, it may be a problem.
