Title: How do I adjust my Pinto camber for a high banked track
Post by: cmcpinto21 on August 19, 2008, 12:07:02 PM
I am currently racing at a 3/8th mile asphalt high banked track in Georgia.  My 73 Pinto is set up for a flat track.  Anyone have info to adjust the camber on the right and left side.

Try different tire sizes side to side (smaller tire on the inside turn side) at least on the front. Are your rear gears locked? If so, don't go too different in the back. This is an old "Sprint Car Outlaws" and "Modifieds" race trick. :fastcar:

You adjust it with the two vertical bolts on the inner top of both upper arms (if the car has the stock suspention).

Knowing HOW to adjust is one thing, the REASON for the adjustment is 'the' question.

There are WAY TOO MANY VARIABILES for what to do to list here without more info (if that is what you want). What is the car doing in: entry/middle/exit?

BTW: Was the car set for flat DIRT or pavement?

In a nutshell, you SHOULD need less neg. camber on the right front at the higher banked track, and also you SHOULD need less  stagger in the rear (if locked), and smaller sway bar(s); this all DEPENDS on the car/track/rules for both tracks. The banking changes the slip-angle of the tires. What to change it to depends on how the car handles, tire temps, tire pressures and a host of other things.

How is the car set: type of tires, locked or open rear, spring rates, poly bushings, sway bars, geometry, other rules at the track will have EVERYTHING to do with the set-up.
