will a 74 later spindle swap to a 71-73? i have a 72 drum brake and would like to swap to a standerd 4 lug. factory 74 later disc brakes would be fine for me.
No the 74 and up are too tall...
Sorry

Also I am unsure if the ball joints from the early Pinto will accomodate the 74-up spindle???

Tony! The lower ones are the same. Biggest problem is the 74/80 spindles use larger tie rod ends, and have a larger threaded hole that screws onto the rack.
Interesting,
Sounds like later spindles would pour camber into the out board tire when cornering hard if used in an early chassis. Might be desireable on a low stance minimal suspension travel car.
I have a set of 74-up lowering spindles in the shop and just for a kick, I installed them on the 73 wagon when I was redoing the suspension. Like was said above, they are taller than the 73 and cause all kinds of havoc with the camber. The ball joints both fit right (upper and lower) though. The dust cover and the disc caliper mount different than the 73 and the rotors would need to be changed to the 74-up. It would almost be impossible to get the thing aligned right with later model spindles. If you want disc brakes, I would suggest finding a late 73 with disc's and that would be a simple change over. Not sure which of the 71-73's have disc's...my 73 wagon came with them.
what about changing the a arms too?
then a rack mod or adaptation
