Maaaayybe if it was a time capsule but this is just a restored wagon, although a very well done one.

Still, sorry, I gotta say I'd be proud to own it. Takes a lot of work to get there, no disrespect. I can only hope mine would look that nice when done.

I agree, it's a pretty nice car.  I also agree with Tony that there is definitely room for improvement.  Thirdly, I agree that $19500 is ludicrous.  Personally, if I were going to lay out THAT kind of money, I'd rather have a meticulously kept original car than one that's been restored.  My Pinto is being done on the cheap because my one and only goal is to have a fun, neat-looking driver.  Even at that, I'll still end up with about $3000 in it.  Buying this particular Pinto would be like owning my '79 Collector's Series Continental; I'd be so over-invested in it that I'd hesitate to take it out on the road!  I can have a lot more fun with my $3000 Pinto or my $3500 Mark V and not lose too much sleep if I pick up a gravel chip or parking lot ding!

Scott Hamilton and I debated the investment potential of Pintos over breakfast in Tulsa.  Because of my longtime interest in older Lincolns and Rolls Royces, I follow that market pretty closely.  You can't ignore the impact oil prices have had on those cars in spite of the fact that they generally aren't used as daily drivers.  The ones that are actually selling today are bringing about half what they did several years ago.  Therefore, it seems logical to me that a collectible small car (which is perceived by the general public to be fuel efficient whether it actually is or not) should go up in value.  The '73 Squire wagon in question is definitely priced w-a-y too high.  We should all live long enough to buy that and actually make money!  But haven't you noticed that Pintos are bringing considerably more now than, say, five years ago?  Let's face it, there was a time when you could hardly give them away!  By the way, speaking of people's perceptions, my 1974 Pinto Runabout (2300 cc/4 spd.) never turned in better than 19 mpg on a trip when it was brand new!  Last year, I drove my 1979 Continental Mark V with a 400 CID V-8 on an 875 mile trip and got 18 mpg.   Go figure!
I think Pinto prices will continue to rise, albeit slowly.

Everything has a market, and sometimes it is 'up', sometimes its 'down' (prices). I. E.: Not that long ago the Chevy 'tri-5s' were king, but now it seems that Mopars of the same vintage are where people are willing to cough up much more dough to purchase.

I agree that with gas prices on the rise, peoples priorities are changing, and that can effect the price of 'toys'. Pintos are catching more money, but that has been coming on for much longer than the gas price issue. Despite the occasional ebay sellers self-serving and inaccurate claim that the Pinto is great on gas, I believe the truth of the popularity of these cars is that the people that owned one as a young adult, or who's parent had one, is now looking to re-live their youth. This, coupled with the Pintos RELATIVE low prices in the 'collector car' world (VS. 80K for a 60's Vette, or....) has a lot to do with the market.

As far as an 'investment': there are some people that buy and sell Pintos and make money, but like any other market, there is a risk of loss. (As a newer USAF member, a bunch of us walked to a tatto place just outside the front gate of the base. The artist was claiming that "a tatoo is an investment in art".  I thought it was an interesting twist, but it did not 'sell' me)

The sad truth is that it is a 'buyer beware' world, and if a buyer does not educate themself before ANY purchase: Oh well......

I agree with Tony (as I do often), the car has appears to have some issues, and it is only 'worth' what the BUYER says.

I thought it has more like 19,500 issues......

Tony: Had I known it was you 'selling' the car I would not have made that comment. JK

Both are sharp cars, and I'd be proud to own either of them. But frankly the spelling was so bad on the info for the little red hatchback it was hard to read.

That '71 runabout is a rare car and what a great price!  I hope one of you guys in the Northwest will jump on that one if it is as represented.
