Title: 2.0 Distributor identification
Post by: Reed on July 25, 2008, 03:34:31 PM
I have a 1971 Pinto with the 2.0 motor.  I learned that the engines came with either an Autolite OR of Bosch distributor AFTER I had ordered a Pertronix unit for a Bosch distributor.  How do I tell what distributor I have?

Thanks!

Cool.  I don't really care, just so long as the Pertronix unit works.

Bosch distributors were only used in Capri's ( I think). I know Bosch starters were only used in Capri's.

Identification problem solved!  Bosch distributors have the condensor mounted on the outside of the body of the distributor, Autolite distributors have the condensor mounted under the distributor cap.  That is according to my 71 FSM anyway.  Looks like I have a Bosch unit.  Yay!  Now I know my Pertronix will fit.
