Title: TC swap from 79 Turbo Mustang
Post by: 77CrzgWgn on July 23, 2008, 11:52:18 AM
I presently have a running 79 turbo mustang, I purchased for the engine only. Cosmetically the car is a mess and not worth restoring. I would like to put the engine in my 77 cruising wagon which has the factory 2.8L. One of my first questions is, how much of the vacuum stuff is required? The mustang has a four speed and the pinto has the C4. I would like to use the mustang harness.

Any thoughts, links, etc. would be appreciated. Both vehicles are totally original. The pinto I purchased from the original owner (a little old lady, if you can believe it) and she kept it in great shape. Got 140,000 out of the original, unmolested engine! Smoked bad and fouled two plugs in the end. May rebuild engine some day, but not priority. I'm sure it's the seals, but still would prefer the TC.

Thanks everyone!

Are you saying there is a T/C engine (2.3T EFI) in the 79, or is it the 79 carb.ed set up?

If it is the carb.ed set up I have heard that there problems with it fitting in a Pinto. I have never done that swap, but I have seen the carb.ed set up and it looks like it might not fit well. This is not to say that it CAN'T be done, but just that it will need more work.

As for the vac. lines: If the car is in good running condition you should hook them all up as they are in the donor. Carb.s with turbos tend to be sensitive, and unless you are a tuning wiz (or really lucky), you should keep it stock.
