i have a rear end question. i hae a 74 runabout with 2.3 and 4 speed. how do i know what the diff size is? i am building a circle track racer with no real mods to powerplant, not allowed. need to run 3.55 gears. will it fit i the rear i have now or do i need an 8" if that is not what is in there? by the way allowed to run 13 or 14 tires only
thanks ???
On your 74 runabout you will have a 6 3/4 rear end with a 3:40 gear. On your Certification Label, located on the drivers side door jamb, you should see an axle code between the trim code and the trans code. This should read " 7 ". ( let me know if it does not). You can get a 3:55 gear out of a 71-72 with a "G" axle code.
I also have a circle track mini stock pinto, what size is your track? This is very important, believe I have problems on a 3/8 because my second gear is too short and it needs to be longer, however on a 1/4 it is fine.
I was also trying to figure out what I had in my rear end and the transmision gear ratio.
Don't know if this helps, but I can tell you how to build a 2300cc motor dependent on your rules.
Thanks
Daniel
What if your door jab is cut out? heheehe I had to put my car on a diet.
I need a longer second gear in my tranny, and I was wondering if there was a transmission that would bolt up to a 2300cc with a longer second gear?
This is what I have today:
1st - 3.98
2nd - 2.14
3rd - 1.42
4th - 1.00
Reverse - 3.99
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thanks
