I got a N.O.S. Ford trailer hitch kit off of eBay for my 71 Pinto. The instructions say it fits the 71-72 Pinto sedans. It is complete except for the ball and the wiring, but I don't think it ever had any wiring because the instructions don't mention it.
If anyone wants and pictures or a scan of the instructions for reproductions purposes let me know.

cool... thanks ;D
I will be running the Turbo Toy at Columbus for the NMRA race this Labor Day. I will be running true street and think it would be a hoot to have a trailer hitch hanging on it. Post up some pics.
The only thing I don't like about it is I have to drill holes in the bumper and trunk pan to install it. :( Otherwise, it looks good.
I don't know how useful this item ever was though. Max trailer weight (including the trailer itself) is 800 pounds. Max tongue weight is only 100 pounds! Can't really haul a travel trailer or a utility trailer with it. But i guess i could hitch up my 4x8 Harbor Freight trailer and haul loads to the dump.
That should realy stiffen up the rear bumper. I got rear ended once in a Pinto and those early bumpers do not offer much protection.
That is another reason why I want it. It should add a smidge more protection at the back end.
Here is a lnk to a scan of the instructions. It is a 17x11 sheet so I had to scan it in sections and paste it together. I did it in three resolutions: full, 150 DPI, 100 DPI. The lower the number the smaller the file, but the 100 DPI looks pretty chunky. All of them are larger than 100KB so I can't attach it to this post, but you can download the picture from the link.

I won't have any picture of it installed for a bit since I am waiting to install it until after I replace my bumper.
Enjoy!
??? Hmmm. Looks like photobucket resized everything. Argh. Send me a PM and I will e-mail you the full resolution jpeg. It is about 3.5 megs.
I will work on resizing the scan and getting it posted somewhere for direct download.
Got it! This should work good:
