Title: My Pinto Adventure...
Post by: kaydle on July 20, 2008, 08:34:24 PM
So the police officer says to me earlier that "there is no such thing as luck".
Then I'm either blessed or there is some good karma left somewhere.
I was headed home from my grandmothers house(thats a good 45 min drive from here). Talk about hot (the heat index for Georgia today was somewhere around 95). I'm putting down the road going about 50, when "THUD, THWAP THWAP". "aww great" I pull over to the middle lane. It was my rear passenger side tire(if it was the front, I coulda been in trouble). I suppose this scared me as much as the person behind me, because they came back! This young gentlemen was so sweet he was willing to give me his spare tire. When it did not fit, he drove me to Pep Boys right up the road(after stopping by AutoZone first). He waited for me to get a new tire put on my rim. Drove me back to the car. By that time a police officer had seen someone was in distress. JP(the nice young gentlemen, one of the "if something like this happend to my mom or sisters I would want someone to help them" types) asked "would you hate me if I leave?" He made sure the officer would stay with me. I told him no but thank you, and left him my number in case I could anyway in my power help him in the future.
It seems like people get so caught up in themselves that selfless acts get done far less than they should. One good turn deserves another.
Back to the officer, he was bound and determined to tow my car back to my house. I told him "Listen man, to be honest, I just spent money buying this tire, Iv been fixing up my car. I really dont have extra cash to spend on a tow home". So he tried working with me. He waved down a tow truck, that lifted my ponys rear end so I could place the tire on. "I dont even know guys who can put a tire on that well" he says to me(coulda been cause I have boobies, coulda been serious, I dunno).
"Do you have AAA?" Says the Officer
"No"
"We'll you might want to get 'em, with this car you will need it"
I have a 77' Pinto :)
I was excited about it running, so yes, I did over look the tire thing. Every mechanic knows after a cars been sitting awhile the tires dry rot.
That was my adventure today.

So For the People That lend a helping hand, to those in need. Thank you!! Its a great reminder that there is good in the world.

Roadside Tip: Long Blond Hair from behind seems to catch their eye also. It's a good idea to carry a AAA Card or a Long Blond Wig in your Pinto..... just don't bend over to change your tire. :o
