Title: 79 - 80 bumpers
Post by: futuraman on July 14, 2008, 03:53:31 PM
Hey everyone, quick question. Has anyone ever done anything to modify their "big bumpers" for a sleeker apperance? I'm working on closing a deal on an 80 ralley and I just think if the bumpers were in tighter to the body that it would really look sweet. Thanks for the help [and wish me luck], Mike

Yes, I have moved the bumpers back on my 76.  I cut them back about 2 to 3 inches and then cut down the plastic skirting.  Just a matter or cutting and welding.
Picture attached on how it looks. :accident:

Here is another.  Probably could of got the back closer, but then it gets real close to the body.  I did not want to rechrome.  If you did that you could take some out of the bumper.  If you want I could take some pictures of the underside and you can see how it is welded on.  If I can get some half way decent pictures.

Thanks for the quick reply, that looks really good [I knew it would !]. Yea I agree about the big bumpers [not my favorite] but, that seems to be the only cars i've been finding in my area. I believe if you got rid of the "shelves" [huge bumpers], that the car would take on a whole new look. By the way where can I find more info on the ralley edition?
