Pitrified
« on: May 25, 2018, 09:56:07 AM »
Kind of pitrified and shell shocked that I threw away a 2.3 engine with upper, lower intake, throttle body, injectors, distributor, starter, and misc parts to the local scrap yard. :o Got a wopping 23 dollars for them. It came off the 90 Mustang LX that I bought, and I was told it was a running engine with about 85K. 'Another One Bites the Dust'. I had it in the back of my Jeep Wagoneer, and couldn't drive the vehicle like normal (even though it wasn't too bad). So it was either try to sell it, toss it, or buy a cherry picker and put the engine in my garage which is lacking for room as it is. But needless to say, it would have been nice if it could have been used. And I did take it to a local car show/swap meet. But that kind of crowd had no interest in it. And I also took it to the flea market, but it was so cold that day that there were hardly any people there. And I didn't want to use Craigslist due to just recently having to deal with a lot scams when I posted an item for free. I even had a scammer try me on this site just recently! >:(

I've "Been there, done that" too.  When I did my 2.3 Turbo swap I had a perfectly good C-4 trans with 86,000 miles on it. Asked around and got no interest. I tripped over it for a few years then sent it to Pick A Part to get my $18 core charge when I put a 700R4 in my Studebaker.

The complete 2.0 (runs but smokes) is still sitting on the back patio. It's worth $65 as an engine core at Pick A Part.  Id rather convert it into cash as that takes up less space and weighs a whole lot less.  Tried here a number of times, but no interest.

I have a '63 Rambler American with the ancient 196 engine.  I want to do an engine swap but at times am tempted to just rebuild the engine.  But parts are rare and expensive and that engine is a weezer too.  Anyway, I had stored a spare crank, cam/lifters, rods and pistons for 'someday..., maybe.'  Evetually I sold them for scrap. But now..., if I do decide to go the rebuild route I sure wish I would have had those things back.  BTW, one of the engine known to fit the Rambler (many don't) is the 2.3 engine.  If it was what you were told I'd have gladly given you the $23 for it.  Unfortunately these are just not things that can be put in the mail.

Patience is a virtue that I don't have sometimes to include the lack of yard space so help me God. But I do have extra upper and lower control arms, coil springs and leaf springs off the Bobcat that will probably see the same fate. They have all been replaced on the Bobcat. I'll keep the extra 8in, 3.0 ratio, axle. I decided (after reading all these forums on axles on this site) to keep the 6.75in, 3.18 ratio, axle on the car and not go with the 8in.
