WTB.... Driver's side axle for 6 3/4"
« on: November 09, 2008, 12:18:46 PM »
The axle has the smaller 1" splines and the larger 2.835" (about) bearing OD.

All the ones I have ether have the small bearing & small splines or
Big bearing (about 2.685") and big splines

Any Ideas on where I could find this thing?

My flange broke on my original axle...
Which led to my rear wheel and I parting company at a rather high speed....Not fun!

Been there ONCE...I recommend Strange Engineering's custom billet if your staying 6.75 and DO BOTH. If one went...... :accident:

Better is to go 8 inch with the thicker axels as I did. Much better parts and ratios available. Don't go cheap in this area if your racing and you want to live a little longer. :hypno:

My wife always said I was hard headed....

My god!!!
A totaled Cortina...

That makes me sad  :'(

I run ITB in the SCCA and can be 2340#
I am 2457# right now and there isn't much else I can take out.
The 8" is 45# heaver than the 6.75
So I'd rather keep it.

Does Strange custom make axles?
I just looked at their site and didn't see any reference to custom builds.

I have Strange Engineering 31 spline axles in my 69 Mustang. I assume they still do custom stuff or know who does. I've had my axles for about 3 years.

I race vintage club stuff and open track events up to now with my 97 V6 Mustang (my son's cast off) until the Lotus/Pinto is ready.

The "totaled Cortina" barrel rolled 4 times after the driver's side rear axle snapped but the driveline and all of the Lotus Cortina specific parts came thru OK (backed by my spares) except the steering box ate it (I don't have an extra-very rare $$$). Otherwise, I have a complete Lotus Cortina in pieces including the correct replacement body and a spare Twin Cam engine minus the valve cover but I decided put my total efforts into a Trans-AM Pinto/Lotus instead of re-doing a Lotus Cortina. I went specifically for the 71 Pinto (my son's cast off....I'm seeing a pattern here :lost:) because all the other year Pintos start with a weight disadvantage (about 80LBS added per year-give or take). I'm aiming for at or under 2000lbs race ready with me in it. I've lost 52 LBS in the last year and a half to get to a race weight of 145LBS my self  ;D
