Where did all the Woman go???
« on: October 04, 2014, 03:39:16 PM »
This board had more woman on it than any board I'm associated with. And per capita it was a lot (compared to other boards).  I haven't seen any of them post in quite some time.

Anyway, happily married 32 years so not looking, just noticed the change and was curious.

A lot are on facebook. It's faster to get a response on Ford Pinto Fan Club or Ford Pinto Car Club. You can't do threads & there's no archive but the speed of a response helps

might it be time to stand back and think about why?  just sayin' but this does seem to be a predominantly male oriented forum.

the ladies that have been here in the past have, to me, seemed to be regular people interested in some straightforwar d answers to questions/concerns about their cars.

have we (the 'collective' male presence,  made them so uncomfortable as to have them drop off the radar?

I never saw any snarky comments sent their way. I think it has more to do with response time. Being interactive has it's merits.

I confess I haven't been here for awhile because I did have a snarky comment aimed at me in a thread I started last year (concerning a fuel issue in two of my Pintos. Also, I get the feeling that I'm not really welcome because, well, I am female and work on my own cars. I have asked for advice a few times, and on the most part, get great advice and no issues. However, a handful of times I have been treated like I don't know what I'm talking about concerning things I'm experiencing with my own cars.  There are also a few who don't like me having an opinion that differs from theirs- politically or otherwise. I used to love this site and had lots of fun with fellow Pinto Peeps.  I still keep in touch with a few. Sadly, I just feel like I'm not welcome here so I rarely come. I think Jennifer (cutelilputtput t) feels the same.  Kim (Pinto Girl) is enjoying her VWs and kayaking. I don't think anyone had issues with her.

Dianne is dealing with some health issues that have prompted her to liquidate most of her collection of old cars.  I'll miss her too, but I do understand her reasons.  I will also make a point to let her know that she's welcome here, Pinto or no Pinto.  I didn't have one when I first joined up!  She is into the older cars, heart and soul, and I think once she's feeling better, she'll be right back with new projects.

Becky, let me first say that anyone that posted "snarky" remarks about you can kiss my ENTIRE a-double. Due to changes in my life I too am very rarely able to log on, and I don't post anymore,(until now) I just read from time to time. You are an AMAZING person! I will bet a dollar and a donut that there is not another Pinto driver on this board that has accomplished what you did when you drove a 1971 1600cc Pinto all the way across the U.S. and back. By yourself. Not many people can even fathom that, me included. I'm sorry that some people felt like you were just a dumb ol' girl. You are far from that. Even though we live 3000 miles apart and have never met in person, you hold a very special place in my heart and always will. Thank You Becky.
If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Well said, Jimmy!  I'm proud to say that I met Becky and, in fact, played host to her for a couple of days in my home, during that trip.  She is definitely "good people"!  She is a special friend to my wife, my son, and my daughter-in-law, as well as to me.

As for you, Jimmy; we miss you.  Feel free to jump into the conversation anytime!

If any of that snark came from me I apologize. I don't wear well with a lot of women but I have nothing against them at all. In my view they are generally smarter than the guys (we could use 2-3 of EITHER party for president it would seem, I can go there easily) and dealing with guys may be where the snark comes from. I assure all that being married for 35 years now shows I DO know where the priorities lie and cars definitely are not first there. I know rule #1 which is the man is always wrong even if........fill it in with whatever, it still holds true.

I still check in from time to time. I just got so into my 70 Westy Bus that I put the Pintos on the back burner.   I still have all 8 of them but the only one that is registered is the yellow 72, which I call the beater Pinto.  It has a big dent on the passenger side that makes it look kind of bad on that side, but the rest of it looks great. We keep it registered as a back up car for us or our friends. It has been used by one of our VW friends to get home from our house when he couldn't get his bus done in time. LOL It is the best Pinto we have, all you have to do is pump the gas and turn the key and it starts right up. It can sit for months and it starts right up.

So although I don't participate often, I am still around. :D

People keep in mind that because you did not experience a certain situation does not mean its impossible. I had maintenance tell me that certain machines could not do certain things and proved them wrong(never in a good way). Some times things do not sound possible but there is always that off chance.I know myself my words do not always match with what I convey. Also I may come off as a know it all but correct me if ever I am wrong in any way.
