I just bought a 74 wagon. Going to be towed here tomorrow. Had to pay full asking price, $500. But the guy is going to deliver it for free. I would have had to pay for towing otherwise.
It is the one I had posted about on Craigslist.
Seems really solid. Has all glass, interior, etc. needs a grille for sure.
No body damage except for the rear gate, looks like it got dented while being moved around before.
Seems to be a really good candidate to redo.
Best news is that although the ad said automatic, it is a manual! What I really wanted. ;D
The trans is out of the car. Supposedly had a bad clutch.
Now I have to start learning about 74's, and wagons in particular.
Will get pictures tomorrow. All I have right now is the one from the ad.

Thanks, but we will have to see if this causes a family problem. I really shouldn't have bought it, but it was just flat out killing me not to.
And I have already spent money on it. I had given my old manuals away along with a whole lot of household stuff to a church rummage sale before we moved in April. I looked on Amazon tonight and found several sellers who have the Chilton's manual used for (get this) $0.04. Yep, 4 cents! So I ordered one, cost $4.03 with shipping. Not in brand new shape, but it wouldn't be after my first use anyway.
But I doubt if I will be able to spend another cent on it for awhile. I shouldn't need to, it will take time to essentially inventory everything and see what seems to be ok or needs replaced. Being out here, everything rubber or vinyl will need replaced at least. That's a given. Good news is that unlike Ohio, things like steel brake lines and gas lines don't rust out.
Sleeping is going to be hard tonight. For the first time in years I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. ;D

It is definitely a project, but that is what I wanted. Well, a nice running car would have been nice, too, but way out of my budget. Since I will end up making it my own anyway, in the long run it will work out the same.
I had almost forgotten, I actually have a few things for this already. When I sold my Lemans I kept a couple of things that will be good for this. A universal aluminum radiator, Lincoln Mk VII electric fan, trunk mount battery kit with a steel battery box(but I don't have a trunk),and a whole bunch of electrical stuff from MAD Electrical http://www.madelectrical.com/. Not sure if I have anything else left or not.
The radiator might be a little overkill for a 4 cyl, but then again being in Phoenix maybe not. :-)
Still waiting for the car to be delivered. But it is only noon here, not Christmas morning yet. :-)

I tend to get impatient. One of my issues. It's hard to have it sitting here and not being able to spend money on it. But it is better to have the car and not be able to spend than to not have the car at all. 8)
Another issue is tools. If I had my hoist still I would already have the engine out (it isn't bolted in at all!) and be working on the engine compartment. But I don't, so I have to wait. I need to finish stripping the interior out, but since I don't have any place to put stuff that is kind of on hold as well. I did a quick rust check, but really want to do a thorough one soon. Shouldn't be any, but I tend to find the exceptions.
Speaking of which, I need to go refresh my memory on how the front seats come out. It's only been 3.5 years since I gave away the 79, you would think I would remember this stuff. :(
