NEW MEMBER! Introduction and WTB
« on: April 06, 2017, 02:04:07 AM »
Hello there!  New member here (sorry if I posted this in the wrong section), my name is Austin I'm 27 years old and live in Boise, Idaho.  I'm in the process of purchasing a 1972 Pinto Wagon!  Planning on it being my daily driver.  I'm in need of some (well mostly all) interior parts.  Door panels, mirrors (rear and side) window cranks, door handles (interior) and some other misc stuff.  I already posted in the "Classifieds" section but I figured I'd include it in my introduction.  I'm sure I'll have lots of questions so I'm looking forward to contributing to the community and getting to know you all!  Post a response and show me some of those sweet wagons!

Although the member says his wagon is a 72, If you look at photos of both cars, It's carrying the Same Idaho plates as the 73 wagon that Dave sold to Diane. I hope the new owner will be able  to continue her legacy by finishing the restoration. She'll never be forgotten here as a person who lived life to it's fullest.

Hi Austin, I think you just might have stumbled into the right club for help with your wagon. As you may have gathered by now, that car is well known in this community and many members have fond memories of its former owner.
If you follow the links that Reeves posted you''ll find that work on that car is documented here.
As already was stated, the car is a 73, not a 72, this is important if you start looking for particularly steering parts, they are different from other production years.
Hope this deal comes through for you, it's definitely a car with  an extra touch of known history.

Hi Austin!  Your post has generated more excitement on this forum than I've seen in a while.  Dianne Ursini was a very active and vocal member here until her untimely death.  She put her heart and soul into that Pinto and, fortunately for you, she documented everything on this forum.  As others have suggested, do a search and you'll find tons of information that she posted and also documentation from Dave Isla, the member who sold it to Dianne.  You may well be latching onto one of the most thoroughly documented cars in the Pinto community.  I am personally so glad to know that it has fallen into good hands!
Welcome!

WOW!  This is awesome! Some friends of mine acquired the Pinto at an auction.  They had told me that the owner had passed away in the middle of the restoration (so sad) but they didn't know much more than that. You can definitely tell some loved this car and put a lot of time and money into it. I plan on carrying on where Diane left off. Thanks for sharing the links, and history of the car with me!  It's funny that you all know more about it than I do!  Haha. Good to know it's a '73, thanks for the correction. That's waaaay cool that there is information, pics and documentation on this forum of the restoration project. There are 2-3 big boxes in the car that are full of trim and other misc parts. The interior is pretty rough, but I received an e-mail yesterday from a gentalman (probably a member of this forum, was it any of you guys?) that has a pair of seats, so that's a start! I have no intentions of "hacking it apart". In fact I want to keep it as stock as possible inside and out. The only aftermarket parts that I plan to do are a "modern" stereo (but I'm not going to cut the dash. I will relocate it if I have to), and I'm probably going to put a set of black basset racing wheels on (only because I've had them in inventory for 3 years and I need to liquidate them. Haha). I'll probably put snow tires on the aftermarket wheels and keep the stock wheels/tires on in the summer.  Being completely new to the "pinto scene" I have no idea what (if any) are the common issues to watch out for?  Like I said in my original post it is going to be my daily driver so I'd like to get as many MPGs as possible. Since it is carbureted I'm going to run nonethonal fuel (it's AMAZING how much easier the nonethonal fuel is on the entire fuel system, in my opinion). Depending on what carb is on it and what kind of shape the carb is in, I might break down and buy one. Any recommendation s on a carb that is good for gas mileage? Thanks again for all the information and welcoming me to your forum. I'm looking forward to start working on it and I will keep you all posted on the progress. I'm going to pick her up TONIGHT!  Yay!  I'll probably post some interior pics tonight!

I believe I speak for the entire PCCA when I say that we are thrilled to see you pick up where Diane left off.  We'll look forward to your posts and pictures as you progress with the project.

I absolutely agree.
The real fear was her cars would be trashed, as, few people care about these cars.
We hold Diane in high regard around here, and, hoped her projects would continue to progress.
Good on you for continuing her vision.

Enzo.

Hey guys. Sorry it's been so long. fast64ranchero do you happen to have side mirrors or seat belts? (You can contact me at two08-7two4-two8two4)  I have the hood latch now, but no side mirrors or seat belts. Interior is pretty rough. Hardest thing about this project is the fact that I wasn't the one that took it apart. Haha. So I'm still trying to figure out what goes where and what I'm missing. I have been driving her almost daily and I absolutely love it. It starts right up and gets great gas mileage. Hopefully this week I will have time to yard it out and take inventory of what exactly I have. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Austin,

Have you been able to contact Dave Isla, the fellow who sold your Pinto to Dianne?  I'm pretty sure he's the one who took most of the interior apart and he might be able to shed some light on your situation.
