vacuum hoses
« on: March 15, 2012, 07:35:31 AM »
I put a new vacuum hose on my carburetor today and it seems to fit very loosley, very easy to fall off. Are they special size or something? Thanks. It's the small hose under the carb going to a vacuum delay valve.

Owning a couple of '79's myself, I know there are many vacuum hoses. They come in several sizes. All I can suggest is that a loose fit is not a good fit. What I did was buy a couple feet of each size the auto parts store had, very inexpensive and sure to have what I need. A very small vacuum leak will make it idle rough and crazy.

The one I took off I took down with me to match up, the new one I got looks the same outside diameter but it fits looser than I would like. I thought they might be Ford special emmision hoses or the like. The original fitted nice and tight but it cracked from age, thanks for the reply. I am going to go to another parts store and try them.

I went  to NAPA and got the right hoses, 3/16 if anyone else has this problem. They fit nice and tight now!
