Upgrades from "Model A" Ford
« on: July 26, 2012, 02:50:15 PM »
New to the forum.  My first post!   :)

Here are some Pinto improvements over the "Model A" Ford (1928 - 1931) that I could think of.  That's a lot of progress in 43 years!

1. 75 hp (compared to 40 hp on Model A, non-counterweighted crank)
2. Overhead cam and valves
3. 4-speed synchronized transmission, or automatic
4. Heater
5. Radio
6. Turn signals
7. Hydraulic brakes
8. Two rear brake lights
9. High beams (compared to 1928 and early ’29 single beam)
10. Fuel pump
11. Oil filter, air filter, fuel filter
12. Two windshield wipers (only one on Model A)
13. Tube shock absorbers
14. Vacuum advance
15. Rack and pinion steering
16. Front coil springs
17. Alternator
18. Adjustable seats
19. Vent fan
20. Curved windshield
21. Idiot lights
22. Seatbelts
23. Fuses
24. Automatic choke
25. Side mirror
26. Glove box
27. Downdraft carb

When my Dad bought my '73 new...and the '72 before it...he always compared the simplicity to the Model A. He had a '28 sedan as a kid...and he looked at the Pinto's as "modern Model A's".

Thanks for posting...I know it's not why you posted it....but it just made me have some cool thoughts of my Dad and *his* Pinto! (I've still got it!).

Here are some ads that show how Ford believed that the Pinto was a better Model A.  Both are simple, reliable cars.
