Spearco Pinto Pics from the Past
« on: January 01, 2018, 11:56:05 AM »
Back in the mid 70's a guy I had raced slot cars with owned a Spearco Pinto. Note the Spearco insignia over the front side marker. It had actually been George Spearco's personal car, a Turbo 2.0 with an Automatic. Last night we were discussing other cars and this morning those cars and his Spearco showed up in my email. Thought I'd share it with the group since Spearco cars don't come up in discussion here. Sad to say the turbo died at some point and it was converted to a 289 V-8 car.

That's the Pinto group 2 side stripe that Spearco made a copy of back when these cars were new. That's the stripe on my old red Pinto race car. Mine was a real group 2 straight from the factory complete with group 2 emblems and kidney bean slotted Shelby mags. A very long time ago!

On a real group 2 the Pinto emblems were removed and replaced with the group 2 emblems. I have no idea what has been done to the hood as it was not part of the package from Ford.

I just looked at the group 2 catalog and I'm wrong about the removal of the Pinto emblem being removed as the pictures show both emblems on the group 2 cars. It also talks about the group 2 KIT so it looks like Spearco might have made the side stripe for Ford. A big maybe but doable upon reading the catalog. Either way the stripe made the group 2 cars regardless of who made the stripe. Kind of like, "which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

The catalog cover states "Performance Inspired Customizing For Pinto". Also states "Unique Appearance" & "Improved Handling" & "Distinctive Interior Comfort". Mine had the same interior as most Pintos had so ????. Handling was improved by more rubber on the ground. It really made a Pinto stand out in a sea of boring 70's cars. Too bad the Spearco company is no longer with us. Of all the company's that made Pinto parts in the 70's only Racer Walsh and ADCO is still around.
