Some of you may remember that I was working on putting a DIS 2.3 (N/A for now unfortunately) into my 74 wagon. Well, today I got it wired up (except power to the fuel pumps) along with a bunch of other little things. I still have a few hours worth of work to do.
1. Wire the fuel puthe 12ga wire first)
2. Fill the radiator, engine oil, transmission oil, and power steering fluid (have everything but the antifreeze)
3. Hook up the return fuel lines (need some 1/4" fuel injection hose and clamps first)
4. Plug a couple vacuum ports
5. Connect the computer
6. Turn the key!
I don't know yet, but I MAY also have to wire the neutral drive switch line to the signal return line together to make it run.

There is no cooling fan yet (no clearance for a ranger clutch fan that I wanted to use, or the stock fan either), and the exhaust hasn't been hooked up (since it had to be cut off the old engine, and the manifold outlet is in a different spot anyways), so it will only be a short run, but at least I'll know it will run.
I do have one other problem to solve before the car is ready to be driven all the time. For now the computer will have to be under the hood. I fear it will get wet and ruin it there, so I need to either seal it up in a plastic bag or box, or cut a hole in the firewall to run the wiring through so that I can put the computer up under the dash somewhere.
Other than that stuff the project is pretty much done. Hoping to get pretty good mileage with this thing, even tho I am using the stock pinto 4 speed transmission for now.

Did not get to start the car today. Maybe tomorrow tho. I didn't get enough wire to reach the fuel pump from the computer and relay box. I'll get more wire tomorrow and then I can start it. I did get the transmission oil filled, and the wire I did have ran as far back as I could as well as the return line for the fuel system plumbed.

I started the car today and drove it around the block. Still no exhaust or cooling fan, but a short drive around the block wasnt enough to make it get hot. All is fine. It did kinda seem like it was idling high and that it would accelerate some on its own due to that fact, but I am not sure what would be causing that? I would think a vacuum leak, but I plugged all the vacuum ports I could find that were open which was only two of them. Later on I connected the OBD-1 ford code reader (and couldn't get any codes to pop up, and I know there have got to be some) and when I started it, it idled just fine. So I don't know what the deal was on that.
But that's today's update. It runs great. If I could tune the computer I'd put my 2.3T parts on it and run it at low boost, but I don't have a way to tune the computer.

Today I got the computer to read me the codes it had. I found that I had cut a joint where the MIL wire connects to another section of that same wire. I respliced that joint together and the code reader works now. Got some codes, all except one of which are to be expected (auto trans related). The last was code 10 which says there is something wrong with cylinder number 1 although it seemed fine to me.
There is some throttle sticking or something going on. It idles fine but when you rev it up it doesnt seem to want to come back to proper idle speed.
I also got the fan it had with the other engine on it today. Not much room in there to work, I had to buy a spacer and remove the radiator to install it. Still could use to be spaced out a little farther but its working fine the way it is.
Last night I used a rotary file and a drill and put a hole in the firewall for the computer and its wiring to run though. I made it the shape of the mustangs hole so that I could use the grommet from the mustang to run it thought the firewall, protecting it from cuts and stuff.
I think thats it for todays update. Still no exhaust, and I have a few other minor little things to do, but nothing that really prevents it from being driven. I drove it around the block again today and it ran so good.

Nice looking project. Just a thought on safety, with running electric fuel pump, did you wire in an inertia switch?
