Title: Rat's Nest
Post by: JohnW on December 23, 2011, 08:10:06 PM
So I found this filling my quarter panel:

Then discovered it goes all the way through the right side of my headliner.  Seems to be made from the headliner padding, plus a ton of rat turds.  It'll be fun ripping out the headliner and cleaning that...

Oh no! Darn rats! I hope you can clean it without pulling too much apart. I don't envy you.  :-\

Well I got the quarter panel cleared out.  I think I'm just going to rip the headliner out and toss it.  It's got about 5 tears in it, although they'd be patchable and it hasn't sagged at all.  I don't think I can pull it out without ruining it though, right?

Maybe use one or more of those tears and gently use a vacuum hose (from a small shop vac) and snake the hose and zoop stuff out then patch your holes. That's what I would do, because I know what a pain in the arse installing a headliner in a Pinto can be.  :o

Regardless I'll have to tear it out to reinsulate it.  There's nothing in the center, haha.

At least you are only cleaning one interior. I had about five pretty much complete interiors stashed on shelves in the back room of my garage. They got into that and I had to tear almost everything in the room out to get rid of the smell.
